News Implementation of a dedicated mission server

Maybe we should just give every player a corvette and cutter for buying the game and a billion credits when they dock the first time.

Maybe we should limit you to nothing bigger than a Cobra, make the paintjob a mandatory council yellow and a million credits maximum...forever. :)

Or maybe we can understand that not everyone is a fanatic and can not afford to deal in extremes. Maybe they have jobs and kids. Limited time and a worldview that is different to yours.

And want to see the game succeed due to being accessible by the mainstream consumer.

How did you know what I fly?

After this revelation you still THINK that you can call another players LAZY because they don't want to spend a day wating in the station to one decent mission show up =)

When you get not lazy enought to fly something bigger we talk, for now you are in the lazy skywalker-syndrome list.

First, I have a full time job and family. My time is valuable too. But I do not want stuff handed to me. I've played for a couple of years now. I'm not as rich as some in the game nor do I try to be that. I don't own every module nor are all of mine engineered to the max. But I struck out across the bubble and the galaxy when I played and worked hard for the stuff i "earned ". I don't play in a manner that says I have to have this "item" or "ship" right now or to the point I have to manipulate the game to get it. I play the game. It has actually added value to my gameplay because of how valuable my free time is. I place value in the journey and not the destination. Try it. You might find out you like it.

Nice man, so continue to play the game like you want/can and stop to pretending that anyone else NEED to play or think like you.

You play your game.

I used to play like that. Still do, from time to time.

I just want to keep having the choice.

So once again, these decisions show that the Devs don't understand the game or play it. Has ANYONE at Fdev ever considered why players board flip? Has Anyone at Fdev ever actually tried to do passenger missions in a large ship? I am certain the answer is no because if they had, even the lowest IQ scrub would have realized that if you have a large ship and you don't want to take criminals and risk getting blown up by the station, you can't fill the ship on a single board. Second, High ranking players don't want to take low ranking missions. You want to stop board flipping? Fine, double the number of missions on the board and scale missions appropriately. Problem solved. A 10% increase in payout is meaningless and doesn't address the issue at all.

Again, the underpinning reason for board flipping would be completely solved if FDEV did 2 things. 1) double the number of missions offered on each board 2) Make the missions you are offered scale to your rank (in trade, exploration or combat). This means elite would only get elite missions and so on all the way down in each category. If this is done, there are enough missions to choose from and the pay is appropriate for the players level.

That's utter rubbish. They did briefly double the number of missions, & some people still were clearly board flipping, which exarcerbated a pre existing slowdown. Moving the missions to a dedicated server will allow for an increase in the total number of missions *without* the slowdown it currently causes.

Also, no I don't want the missions to scale to rank.....because sometimes I am not in the mood for a rank 6 mission. Some nights all I want to do is half a dozen rank 3 missions. Why are you trying to dictate my play-style?

He's not, FD will have to with these changes though, so good luck heading that opinion off at the pass.

It's no longer going to be about "what you're in the mood for".

It'll be about "getting what you get and liking it 'biatch".

While I largely agree that the list of available missions can be frustrating even if nothing else changes after this update it will at least level the playing field - everyone will see broadly the same opportunities to influence the BGS in their chosen way. Naturally this will be at a lower rate for those that board flip.

I regularly take wing fetch or deliver missions alone, and each time I return to base I check for more missions that can be completed during one of my A-B runs. I tend to focus on influence rather than cash but certainly I feel I get enough out of my time invested without board flipping. I'd expect this change to slightly improve my current effectiveness even if nothing else changes.

Its not the number or "variety" of missions that is of issue to me.....it is how bland and generic they all end up feeling. As a roleplayer, the text is lacking in style or context, & all the missions seem to play out exactly the same. I am left wondering if many of the limitations with how missions play out is down to where they are located on the servers. This is one reason why I definitely welcome this change. It certainly can't do any harm.

No sir he don't.

You and a few more that want to dictate how people Should play.

Right now you can choose, if you don't like the missions you can FLIP and pick the missions you want - In that new SYSTEM you will "need" to PICK the mission the board gives to you - So i'ts not exactly that guy that are trying dictate another people play-style, you (And a few more) are.

The new logo should be Elite Dangerous: blaze [Insert the Fanboy name in there] trail

I really like the sound of this, and the benefits seem sound. Even so, I have a few concerns. To preface the below, missions are the chief way of getting money, high end materials, and (ideally) serve as a way of guiding us towards game play we are interested in. By eliminating board flipping (not the main goal, but still), we will be completely at the mercy of RNG. Let that sink in.

-If I'm looking for a particular kind of mission and I can't cycle the junk out, then... I wait. If that next board still doesn't have anything... I wait again. Right now, the mission boards normally refresh after ten minutes (I think, anyways). Without the possibility of manually refreshing the boards, this WILL introduce the same maddening non-interactive sit-and-do-nothing wait that some missions suffer from into the process of getting missions themselves. I should not need to explain how this is a very bad thing.

-Since you are moving missions to their own separate server, you will probably be able to afford having more activity on said server. I would aim for no more than two minutes between board refreshes. The largest overarching complaint about Elite: Dangerous is the lengthy and seemingly arbitrary waits between activities. Not lowering refresh times if possible, and as far as possible only feeds this issue further.

-If reducing refresh times is impossible, then perhaps try significantly increasing the number of missions that spawn by a consistent amount (minimum of ten?), and provide a good mix of mission types. I'm not sure why, but some factions will only have three or four missions, and that same faction will later have thirty when I return from another mission. Also, it seems like an inordinate amount will be either "boom data delivery", "massacre X", or in the case of the AEGIS megaships "source and return" (BTW, thargoid mission objectives still take an absurd amount of time to spawn).

-The main idea is to create a mission board that doesn't even need board flipping to be viable. People can whine all they want about flipping being "exploitive" but frankly, it's flat out required for players on a time limit. To compensate, either missions need to cycle FAR faster naturally, and/or have a much higher number of missions for RNG to draw from for increased variety. A slight pay increase is nice, but it doesn't do anything about the core reason that people board flip: to get the missions we want, faster; be that for money, materials, or entertainment. Only the first is addressed.

So, you manipulate the board to get something rare, so it isn't really rare....which devalues the rarity of the mission? In the end, you justify manipulation just for your own benefit because you're too lazy to go and look for the rare mission...you should look in the mirror and be ashamed that you're that lazy.

I mean I feel compelled to find them because they are rare. Lazy? Speak for yourself. I play every day (almost literally). I am triple elite, have all bubble engineers to the max, I've lived 3 months in Colonia, visited Sag. A and Beagle Point, the Formidine rift, almost all generation ships, I've unlocked some of the guardian weapons and modules (nausea made me stop). I own 5-6 condas, a corvette, 2 cutters, kraits, and some change. I've lost elite crew due to stupidity, and if you haven't realised it, yet, I love this game.
I complain because I don't want to lose my choice of missions. Maybe you should, too, after checking your own mirror, Judge.
