News Implementation of a dedicated mission server

Will the mission boards now switch to using TCP rather than UDP? Part of the issue of the mission boards (slow loading, unreliable loading) is that it's using UDP and is extremely intolerant of even minor packet loss - which is a common feature of domestic internet connections. Things like the mission board is what TCP was designed for, and the mission board should be using it. If this also results in a switch to using TCP to send the mission lists, this will be a huge plus for anyone who doesn't have an absolutely perfect internet connection.

Cheat? BGS players just have different goals. We don't pick from all factions for cash. We play for influence for a single faction in the system.

If I can get as many missions for one faction as others can get for all factions combined (because they don't care which faction it is for), I am fine with it.

But there is a reason for board flipping. It's not to get rich. It's to have BGS game play at all.

Yes, the amount of missions generated limits your ability to influence the BGS through missions. This is working as intended, Frontier put hard caps in place for every lever you can pull to affect the BGS, including missions.

Great another nerf and to all missions. Now people that don’t have all day to play won’t be able to manipulate BGS. I guess that makes it easier though on the heavy runners. I’d say less then 20% of the community will really be able to make a big difference with missions being cut in half. Which is the bottom line of this. Missions selection cut right in half.

Don't worry guys. Knowing FDev's programming abilities and their non present QA this change will be delayed, then sold as premium content and ultimately found to be buggy and not working.

I'd like to see more made of the missions that get sent to your comms panel during supercruise. at present, they mostly deliver pretty derisory payments - if I'm an elite explorer, it's kind of immersion breaking to have some dogsbody offer me 30k for a task. Would also provide an opportunity for personal rabbit holes comprising a variety of missions resulting in a big payout, and would feel a bit more immersive than what amounts to a pinboard. Good start tho.

And that's all that needs to be said.

I would be a lot more positive about this post if Will also included "we're overhauling the current mission system to spawn missions at a balanced pay and reasonable spawn rates so that we can take out all the other mission board crutches like arbitrary mission limits on total number of missions, number of skimmer missions, number of passenger mission, and all the other limits we've had to put in place to prevent exploits we haven't been able to address because we've FINALLY ADDRESSED THEM so since we've rendered board-flipping unnecessary (which is NOT the same as UNWANTED) we are making changes to the mission server that will make the mission board consistent across all modes."

of course they haven't said that, have they. They're just saying they don't want us board flipping so they're making changes to prevent it and giving payouts a nominal 10% bump so we can tell critics to shut up.

Even though there is a small number of players doing this, we will increase the credit payout of missions (by 10%) across the board so all players using the mission boards as intended will see a net profit. As a result of this, some mission reward choices will see boosted influence, reputation and rank gains. As always when it comes to missions, we will continually review and balance them where needed.

One reason I board flip is for mats - here I want max mats reward. I think they scale with CR - can you confirm they will scale? Will I see 6 EFC, then I would be :D

except for murdering authority ships, the one thing people really need to grind hard to stand a chance at countering

Since board flipping will be a thing of the past can we do any of the following:

* Double or triple the number of available missions to compensate for the loss in a fair way
* Replace the Wing cargo missions with missions that are reasonable for solo players

Also, can you share with us the percentage of players that takes Wing Cargo Missions? For me those are just clutter :(

EDIT: Thanks for sharing with us your plans for the near future :) [up]
