In-Game Clock

Hi all, I couldn't care less if we do or don't get options for our clock...... but sapient6 has a point, the hard work of giving us a time to display has been done. All we need are offsets that can be set on the local machine by the commander. Also option to switch off should be easy.

All I know is that in ten minutes its Whiskey Time(tm). Soon thereafter I won't give a hoot about what time it is. :)

But I see what the OP means.. it might be nice to see a quick in-game clock for local time. For those of us who play in VR, it would be a good in-game way to help keep tabs on the real world. But I don't worry about it so much. I just realize its in UTC, I know my local time zone offset, and its quick to calculate.

One solid reason to keep GMT as the only reference is the log files. Imagine a dev trying to suss an issue using log files from multiple players who all have their own time zones set.
Doesn't that happen anyway? My in-game clock is UTC but my network logs are all timestamped using my system clock which is BST (UTC+1). On more than one occasion I've nearly attached the wrong log to a bug report because I've subtracted instead of adding.

For which mission if you have three on the go at once?
Either the last one you looked at in the Transactions list, or the one with the lowest time to completion, or the one that just had a fast delivery bonus dropped on it. There are plenty of options, but it's all moot if FD aren't interested in implementation. I would love a countdown timer, of any type, but given how long it took to get that cockpit clock I'll not be holding my breath.

Get rid of the stupid clock. Get rid of time in the game. Since some missions are on timers, just show a countdown clock for each mission when you look at the details in the left nav panel. Then maybe we won't have to see these same threads pop up every week. If you really need to know what time it is in your room, look at a clock/watch/cell phone/etc.

So, for now I will concede. I suppose I am stuck with your silly English clock, but don't expect me to like it.

It is not an English clock, watch the forums when England goes into our out of Daylight savings and see the people complain about the in game clock not changing to match it.

Galactic Mean time.

One standard clock for everyone in game, for all in game events, and community goals and missions to refer to the same time

It is the time that is used on the servers, the same with any other game. Star Trek online for example uses pacific coast time, so when they announce down times, you end having to convert yourself. Converting is not a hard thing to do. If you really want to be lazy, you can pin two other timezones to your system clock ( i can anyway with windows 10) and will show you what time it is where you have it set. I have mine set to show me East and West coast america time alongside my local time.

Please call roomservice, there's a frog in my bidet?

Odd thing to say.

No, it was to help with missions as they have a deadline in game time, not local time.

I assume bidet is a type of Thargoid cuisine and I'd say that frogs are not supposed to be an ingredient in said dish.

In the UK doing math is very hard. Here we do maths! ;)

Just because the UK abbreviation correctly recognizes that "mathematics" is plural for an entire field of study and the one on the other side of the pond does not isn't the poor colonials fault. ;)

Come on guys, it was just a harmless joke. Laugh a little!

I wouldn't have an issue with the option to toggle mission countdown timers, so they could appear in the cockpit somewhere.
And having up to 3 wouldn't be a problem for me, and having an audible warning when 5 minutes left would be great.
I guess it is an individuals idea on how they could manage knowing their own mission deadlines.
For me, the current 'universal clock' does nothing. Generally I look at my on board screen.

i would like to set the clock to match the local time in the system I am based out of so I know I am on time to deliver my rare goods......that time just so happens to match the old Earth time of UTC +5.

Do yourself a real favor and get a G13 pad. It has a clock app built in, and you can't have too many buttons when playing Elite.

You would do better with a calendar - the thread is well over 6 months old before your necro.

P.S. How on earth did your forum name get accepted? crazy

When you rely on your smartphone to find north you'll be in trouble when the battery dies in the middle of nowhere.
Nothing beats a mechanical, self-winding watch and the sun to find north ;)

(completely offtopic, but I had to mention it )

Ha - people have said this earlier. It's not a matter of need. It's a matter of want :)
