In game fleet management tools

And THOSE took years to make into MWO, despite it being a team oriented PvP game from the ground up, go figure. And that's a key point there, MWO IS a team oriented game, while Elite: Dangerous isn't a team oriented game at all, that's actually not something the guy who's behind it is big on, David Braben, he's not fond of guilds and all that stuff.

So, to expect team oriented tools in a game that's very decidedly not team oriented, well, that's like expecting kosher food at fast food joint, not really viable.

I'd like them, I'm a team oriented player myself, but I also realize that's not this game's focus, it's not this game at all, so asking for that stuff, yeah, not really seeing the point when it's clearly not part of their design plan.
Sorry buddy but I disagree, the minute Frontier decided to include the wing feature they became a team oriented game as you called it.

1- Fleet tags so we can distinguish our ourselves as a fleet
2- Fleet mail do to the time zone issues that all fleets have an in game mail would be very helpful.
3- Fleet chat even though we have a teamspeak server a chat would help to keep the hole fleet communicating with each other.
4- A way to invite or dismiss members in game

Previous threads have discussed the potential of linking the sort of "fleet" (but lets face it, we're talking guild/clan functionality here) to minor factions. I think the idea of players affiliating themselves to a minor faction is good, but not on the immediate roadmap.

Your suggestions:

1. I'd suggest that it would be more appropriate to have different colour coding on radar / galaxy map. Alphanumeric tags are so 1990s. *EDIT* - Just realised that doesn't help identify group members if you're not a member of a group. Scratch that...
2. I'd suggest that a bulletin board would be better, accessible only in stations which have a appropriate minor faction presence. Keeps it kind of within game lore (and lowers overhead on the database).
3. Text chat, yes. Voice chat, not possible under the current systems.
4. To the fleet (i.e. your own player group), yep. You have to draw a distinction between your group/clan and the minor faction. You can't stop people contributing to/undermining the in-game entity and if the functionality around that minor faction grows (as I hope it will) you'll have to accept that you will lose control of it.

Why haven't you talked about delegated/shared management of said clan?

As an aside, lots of people piping in with "that isn't what Elite is". Player-created minor factions, Powerplay, Multi-crewed ships - the list of group and multiplayer components is growing rapidly. I suggest that vision of the original Elite isn't what it once was.

I don't understand the hate the OP is getting at the moment. All he is asking in game tools to manage his fleet and ONLY his members, that feature he is asking WILL NEVER affect me what I am doing in game. And lets be honest PP factions are only good for the special weapons and excuse to do some PvP. So why encourage other Cmdrs to use other third parties tools to play Elite Dangerous? I don't know about you, but if I am selling a product or game in this case, I will find ways to keep my audience inside my game instead of referring them FB or Reddit for better communications and management. My two cents.

I used to play SOCOM a lot back in the days, the game is ten years old and have better clan management then Elite Dangerous currently have.

In the same way software houses put the MMO label on games they know will be played mostly by single players... such as ED.

This game has team features but in no way is it a team oriented game as it's focus - Take both Wings and Multicrew and look at the threads concerning them - majority of players asking for NPC inclusion as they don't wing or fly solo.

BF4 is a team oriented game - but you'd never know that by logging into a random server.

To put it bluntly - there are features but no reasons.

Frontier know they have a careful balancing act on their hands, make multicrew ships to powerful and you run the risk of alienating the player-base and driving more CMDR's to solo or group.

Sorry buddy, but I suspect you're quite wrong. I'd wager that the majority of player time is still spent "unwinged". Adding a feature to a game doesn't suddenly make if oriented to that specific feature or we could argue it's a Powerplay oriented game.... which is very clearly isn't! ;)

Do you play in Open? and do you participate at the communities goals? if you do, you will see that 90 percent of players that play in Open will wing up. I used to be a lone wolf myself and I liked it but I had to adapt to remain playing in Open or be killed.

And CG is the majority of all player's game time? Ah sorry, I didn't realise you had the official numbers for that.

Only Frontier know what proportion of the population of Open forms wings, how often and for what proportion of their play-time.

Regarding the OP (and subsequent posts which flesh out the scope of the proposal), requests / demands for Guilds / Clans / Corporations / etc. have been made since backers / prospective players realised that Frontier have no definite plans to introduce such a feature. Whichever way this discussion is-was heading I think it's best picking it up elsewhere. As Robert has kindly pointed out there's 3 threads above that may be suitable to delve into. Alternatively if there's a new suggestion to be made please head over to the Elite Dangerous suggestions thread.
