Incentive for hauling in Open Play

generally in MMO's people are allowed to transfer from PVP to PVE servers, but not from PVE to PVP servers. Since it is much more difficult to level a character in PVP. So no I don't think there should be more incentives to play solo than there already is.

Another fallacy. As has been mentioned by the Lead Developer at FD, solo is not easy mode. NPCs in solo are geared up a notch. Taking that into account, Open is actually the easy mode here because the NPCs are less 'efficient' and the chances of meeting another player if you don't want are next to 0.

So some people want to play solo, who cares. It doesn't effect how you play and you have no right to tell them how they should play.

If that is true about the AI in solo/open mode being different, that needs to change. It needs to be the same everwhere because the AI is just to easy now :/

And btw not everyone how says they joined mobius has posted in the forum, i joined the group last night just to ak someone, then pronmptly left back to open play

Then you can see exactly the number of members in-game just as I did and you will see that the number I posted is correct.

I love it whenever someone complains about solo mode existing, I just get a taste of the salty tears of a wannabe ganker who is dismayed by all those easy picking sidewinders roaming the solo galaxy. Awwww.

let the people any way they want. I play exclusively in open (minus the odd rapid switch to solo if I can't get a docking pad at an outpost after 10mn) and I have never met an hostile player, but had some nice chats with other commanders. I used to bounty hunt, now I'm mining and I like seeing empty dots from time to time. Before you start playing open just to switch to solo the moment the "open" bit of the game happens then you just don't get how this is supposed to work : in your case, just play solo or in a PVE Group .. you'll get exactly the same game you have in open minus the bit you don't like. If you really don't want to see any other player just play solo, and you'll avoid any kind of direct interaction. If you're okay with meeting people who could potentially be hostile or outright psychopaths then play open.
No point in switching mode anytime, unless you're trying to land on an outpost and can't get the permission ... but I'm 100% positive that THAT will be fixed by FD in one of the upcoming patches and probably sooner than later.

As to those asking for "punishment" for various "cheaters" because they are "ruining the game", all I can say is : get off your high horse and get a life ...

What people dont realize is that a good percentage of people that play this game enjoy the open world and interactions with other players, so if there is no action with other players the will not play this game nemore, and then then ppl who are playing it will not be sufficent enough for ED to keep the servers up "and yes there is a transaction server dedicated". and then guess what happens???? ED closes it and you have nothing.

I highly doubt any npc in solo mode is going to pose the same threat as grief specced eagle or viper. That said I havn't noticed any difference in npc's between the two modes.

And you sir should be rewarded for taking the extra risk and populating open group. It's a shame the game doesn't reward you.

That's the point though: they can't. There is no rational reason for traders to play in open. By switching to open play, haulers are only exposing themselves to more risk, while not getting anything in return in in-game terms (the added thrill from player interaction is obviously not enough, or even a reason not to for some, as demonstrated by the fact most traders are playing solo or private groups and open play is kinda deserted atm). Pirate NPCs in soloplay just aren't enough of a threat to warrant switching to open play to hire any kind of protection.

The game needs to give positive incentives for traders to come and expose themselves to the extra risk of open play. I'd suggest higher profit margin, to largely make up for the need to hire an escort or the lower profit they'll get from a ship that isn't geared 100% towards cargo space. That way carebears can still enjoy solo or private trading as they are already doing while greed makes the other less risk averse haulers provide content for pirates PVPers to exist, and extra motivation for PVP bounty hunters.
Of course this means fixing the stupid log off problem.

I'm really not sure why this isn't the case already really, considering Frontier made an open play group, but at the same time forgot to give any reason for a sizeable part of the playerbase to partake in it.

I think you're missing the bit about the game being a huge galaxy that is instanced to very small player bubbles.

Even if FD scrapped solo and groups and group switching - which they clearly won't - players that prefer to play solo will just scoot off and never see anyone again. It's the size and design of the game that makes people scarce - if you want them to be.

Those of us that like to play in Open already are - honestly there is no reason not too - I've been in open since there was a choice - recently was running without shields - even when I did see other players they were easy to avoid if they looked geared up for combat. The "risk" in open is tiny.

You keep on saying this but you neglect to mention the number of players who are joing ED just because it has this solo mode (which you also say everyone is running too, thereby maintaining the playerbase). So you see, ED will survive.

There is nothing against hauling cargo in Open mode. Just get away from the 'core' systems and it is just like being in Solo. I'm way over on the far side of Empire space and haven't seen another player since launch. Trading is good, mining is good and unexplored space is right on my doorstep.

+1

More people need to be aware of this. Space is big and once you move away form the core worlds you can trade for weeks without seeing another player. Then when you do ..... your biggest concern will be if they're going to muscle in on your trade routes ;)

Play your game, your way, in open.

FD have said that they can make the npcs unbeatable by human players in most respects so your doubt is not well founded.

You keep thinking that and come see me in six months when the server closes and they release their info to the public so the public can make thier own private servers lol

People do realise that some players crave interaction with other players. What you fail to accept is that other players do not necessarily crave the same interaction and therefore are quite happy playing the game in solo or private. Regarding servers, the payment for keeping them running is taken from the sales revenue - there are no subscriptions - once a player can play the game, they have contributed to keeping the servers running - if they then choose not to play that is their choice.

Excellent, in 6 months I have a new sig from that quote. Awesome.:D

So some people want to play solo, who cares. It doesn't effect how you play

Actually it does, by allowing the vast majority of haulers to play in bubble wrap mode the entire game experience is changed, for some of us it *is* ruining our game as there is virtually no player interaction.
And this situation is made all the worse because the game generated content (missions and plot) are currently so dull and repetitive.

and you have no right to tell them how they should play.

No one has that right, and no one is telling anyone 'how' they should play, you want to haul cheese between Sol and Anlave, be my guest I'll not tell you how you should play your game. I am just concerned that so many of you haulers are hiding in bubble wrap mode and that is ruining it for everyone who signed up for a multiplayer experience.
