Incoming Messages from players?

Ok.. Gonna ask one of those "Everyone Knows Except for You" questions.
In game comms:
I can't count the number of times that some other player tried to say hello, and I missed it. Because there's no sound or obvious indication that I received a message from another player unless I check my Comm panel every two minutes. I've looked into settings and can't find anything. Does anyone know how to enable an audible tone when another player sends you a message in game?

There's no way to do that via the game itself afaik.

You other option is to use some 3rd party software in the background. Some Elite apps have text-2-speach synthesis, so you can have NPC and/or player messages read aloud for you.
Personally, I use this:
but there are other that can do that too.

It does make a small sound, but it's very quiet. I don't think there's a way to increase the volume, either.

Some people say it makes a sound, others say it doesn't.
Is there a setting I'm missing?
Been playing 5170 hours, and have missed it that whole time.
When there's a mission update, or my Fleet Carrier has arrived, or my ship arrives from a transfer, I get a loud "Incoming Message".
Player messages would seem more of a priority. Wish it was more obvious.

Text to voice for system chat would be interesting. Prolly not in a good way though.
But yea, being able to +/- the volume of all incoming text alarms, perhaps even having different tones for different incoming message types, and having a more visible notification, on a toggle of course, would be nice additions.

Some kind of a flashing icon or sound would be definitively appreciated... couldn't number the situations were some one had a bad encounter because didn't read/see comms.

Awhile back direct messages were the color yellow. It seems simple but it was enough to differentiate from regular NPC messages. Not sure when that changed but it would be nice to bring back.

You are getting a sound when a player meesages you whereas NPC chatter doesn't trigger this sound.
Some time ago, this was only for player messages but now it's also for unimportant stuff like "XYZ has come online".
Best way to keep it all organized is seperate system chat from local chat and only take a look at local chat wen minding your own business and use system chat when you are docked and want some social interaction.
Since system chat is cross modes (and as of EDO/EDH cross versions), I never really use it as there is a low chance I will encounter these players in the first place.

Awhile back we could also turn off NPC chat. Which also helped make seeing Direct messages from players easier. As you didnt need to look through 25,000 messages saying the same thing over and over and over and over.
