Incrementally Improving PowerPlay - Blocking PP players only blocks communications, not instancing

The people who enjoy being pursued by pvp builds in a trading ship are already in open. The people who do not would not suddenly change.

I've got no problems with incentivizing pvp for powerplay, but you simply can't force players to do something they don't enjoy, dude. Yes, powerplay absolutely should be different from the other parts of the game, but if you think you can achieve that by fiat, you'll be very, very disappointed. The net result for pvpers will be pretty much unchanged; no targets. Except powerplay itself will be much emptier.

And how do you know this? Have you ever talked to Powerplay haulers or tried it? Plus, you don't know how many would go for it from the main game either- its just you claiming to speak for the majority's behalf yet again. Go and chat to old Powerplay guys who left, or people like Ganksalot to know PvP guys like evasion and survival just as much as killing targets. Give people a structured reason to play and firm rules and they'll play.

At the very worst you'll have a more compact Powerplay with smaller Powers fighting over better systems under better rules.

Once again, if you want more people participating in pvp, you need to make them want to be there

So, having a structured reason (i.e. tactically) to haul for once (different to missions and the BGS) is not a decent reason? Plus, you are not forced to be one role- you can switch to how you want whenever you want.

The main problem is that this argument goes back and forth but no-one has really got the opinion of people who play powerplay. From what I've seen, the vast majority of powerplay players seem to be in favour of some form of Open Only restriction. There needs to be a way to canvas the opinion of all powerplay players to see if their happy with any move to open only. I still prefer the idea of a hybrid model but there are other things which would need to be done.
  1. Put the powerplay rewards behind the tech broker with requirements equivalent to the three week grind.
  2. Blocking players will only remove them from the chat as long as both players are in powerplay.
The real issue is, no matter how many times we bring this up, or try to highlight these issues to frontier, they've fallen on deaf ears. Say what you will about Sandro, at least when he was about Powerplay appeared to be some kind of priority. Now it seems that fdev don't want to touch it with a ten foot pole, even Dav when talking about Fleet Carriers, said they didn't put in the Power Contact into the Fleet Carrier modules because it's too complex.

Mind you, knowing my luck, they'll be an announcement about Powerplay soon, just to make me look foolish. ;)

The golden rule of talking about Powerplay is that if you play Powerplay you know nothing, whereas if you never play it, or just module shop you are an expert on everything.

Plus, you need to use your influencer Powers to ask if FD are going to do something with Powerplay, Open or not :D

Influencer Powers? Bwah Ha Ha Ha.

Lave Radio has no influencer power. They never listen to us.

I'd like to think myself an exception to this rule. I have very little interest in PP, but I'm all for PP advocates getting the things they are advocating for.

Someone has already pointed out, on XB its not Frontier applying the block in game. Its MIcrosoft blocking that player from my server completely in any game. Same for PS.

All you can do is affect the PC players by forcing people into Open.

So if, you're on the xbox and you block someone using the comms panel, you've blocked that player from your xbox account not just the game?

Yes, for example, when I started ED I found I had 2 players already blocked (must have been from GTA) and they are blocked completely from any multi-server game I play. Single server not sure what happens. havent played any.

So if in future I play GTA V, Fortnite etc I will never see them and they will never see me.

Consoles take block very seriously. Youre their customer and they want to make sure you have the game experience you choose.

This has been pointed out before but I don't think the implications are always recognised:-

FD cannot do what is being suggested in the OP here. It's simply not possible, for reasons outside their control.
