FYI, owner of a 6700XT here : I have none on that on linux (using proton 7, the latest mesa drivers on manjaro).

So it really seems like a driver issue and not a hardware issue, which means it should be fixable, and it seems it is with the new update (it's in the patch notes). I'm sure people will update this thread once the update is out :p

The pre-patch verification should delete 3DMigoto. If it doesn't, just deleting the files you placed in the director to enable it will.

I am still crashing upon attempting to approach a planet. Infact it has gotten worse I no longer get any error message my entire GPU crashes taking the game completely out

This is why I miss groups back in the ATI days like Omega! The driver branches they made often fixed many of the niche issues that ATI would be slow to address.

Modifying the installation .inf to include different registry options has never altered the underlying driver (which, in Windows are closed source) and would be unlikely to address any unresolved issues here. It's not even practical to cobble together the best parts of multiple drivers, both because they are so heavily integrated (you can separate the D3D10/11 driver from the rest of the package, but most of the reason to use newer drivers are due to changes to those specific libraries) and because few people are willing to install unsigned drivers (which is a security risk that newer versions of Windows complain about more loudly).

Even with the 7900XTX, VR is still broken. I can land on stations; I don't trust getting out on foot. Landables bodies still looks like a mess.
The ball is in F.Devs court whenever they decide to come out and play again.

Odd that it is only AMD GPUs (and only 6000/7000 series) having an issue and you are suggesting the onus is on Frontier to fix it...

Yes, I have a 6900 XT and a 7900 XTX and see the issue in VR - but as it is exclusive to AMD hardware....

Not saying that if it was a fix Frontier could do (although they do not seem inclined to do anything over an AMD exclusive issue) that I wouldn't welcome it, but I think both ED devs are a bit busy currently and resources to fix an issue in VR are highly unlikely to be released.

AMD graphics drivers always have been buggy. I don't blame FDev for generally pushing AMD-specific issues under the rug. Any fixes they come up with could potentially be broken by the next AMD driver release.

I've got several issues with FDev, but their AMD support isn't one of them anymore.

Is there a way to have the game stop generating planets every time a new card/driver gets installed? Maybe trick/spoof the game to use an older file (GPUWorkTable.xml) that works before you installed a new driver.

Still broken with 23.2.1. Thanks Frontier Developments for your wonderful customer service.

FYI for those that are playing ED in VR with a WMR headset and SteamVR, Ive noticed that if you switch to using OpenXR with OpenComposite the broken planet rendering no longer occurs! Tested only with 23.2.1

In Linux, the planets are landable, BUT as you can see, the planet's surface is jagged / has mountains where none should exist.
The good news is that VR and non-VR runs of the game showed the same thing. In windows, I'll have a normal planet with non-VR and a mangled-up one in VR.

The Linux driver is AMDGPU 22.0.0-1 w/ DXVK. FPS is locked in at about 60. I haven't gotten the Lutris launcher tested for VR yet, so I just used Proton w/ Steam. Very smooth. I'd like to test out OpenXR and see if it likes the Index.

In windows, I can run 23.2.1 on the 7900xtx in non-VR. VR is still bad.

Just installed Elite again yesterday after almost a year away from it. Update 18 I believe.
I have AMD Radeon 6900 XT, Windows 10. I was getting Orange Sidewinder every single attempt at planet fall. Had to use the Stuck Recover every time.

Read the article, they say to update Adrenaline drivers for graphics card.
Updated to latest drivers as recommended by FDEV. worked perfectly. Try it now people.
you will note in the article, they say if you still get this, log a ticket with them.

I had this problem when landing on a planet.
My solution :
- Reinstall amd driver
- and disable windows update automatic graphic driver update (who can replace your good amd driver by a bad one)

how-to-stop-windows-from-updating-graphics-drivers/
In my experience, it's not necessary to do that disabling of installation of device drivers from Windows Update. I have Windows 10, and it has never updated my GPU driver as long as I have any driver installed with the AMD driver software. But I have to disconnect my PC from Internet for the update process. I reconnect it to Internet only after the new driver is installed and my PC has rebooted.
