Agree with it or not, it's a perfectly valid suggestion. I would suggest OP make a post in the Suggestions subforum provided for that purpose. (Sorry to say, OP, but the track record of those suggestions being adopted is not promising, but it's no more promising putting it in the shark pool here.)
That said, game designers always walk this tricky line between making destruction costly enough that the gamer has reason to avoid it, but not so punishing that people quit in frustration. Not an easy balancing act, not least because it's a moving target. Back when I started gaming, the forgiving titles were those that gave you three lives before starting over from the beginning. Whereas now people tend to expect unlimited respawns from pretty much where they left off. Considering the wide range of ages that make up the Elite player base, I really have no idea what balance FDev could strike that would make everyone happy.
