Hardware & Technical Intel 486 compatability issues

When I try to request docking via carrier pigeon I never get clearance to dock. So I've just been floating in space outside Lave Station for over a year.

I know this is a troll, but I'm actually playing fine on a nearly 10 year old core 2 duo. (E6850 if anyone's interested, so not even top end when I bought it).

My dad's computer is running my old C2D setup and it runs Elite better than I thought it does. I wonder what it'll be like when powerplay hits knowing that station framerate skyrocketed on mine.

Ahhh, this brings back memories.... my first PC was a 486 DX2 66... back in '94... sooo old.

8 Meg of memory and 500 meg hard drive... i remember my friends saying "why the hell do you want a 500 meg hard disc?... you will NEVER use all of that space"

Surfing the internet on a dialup 9600 modem.... ah those were the days.

Hi insidah I'm sorry but you need a graphics card with DX10 capability - something that is not available on old style 486 compatible mobos which were limited to PCI (don't confuse this with PCIe), or even the newfangled pentium model which I believe is capped out at AGP 8x. You need some hyper-advanced futuristic technology called PCIe which will become available sometime in 2003.

Should I buy an Adlib or Sound Blaster sound card to hear the intro theme?

Meh, if my trusty Commodore 64 with a tape drive can play Elite, your 486 should be able to handle it... but then again, the C64 was a far superior computer!

I'm having problems loading this game on my 486. Should I upgrade to a Pentium?

Nah.. I have a Pentium-MMX 233MHz with 256MB RAM and a PCI Voodoo 3 3000 with 16MB VRAM Graphics Card and I can not run Elite:Dangerous even at lowest settings!! Can you believe it?!
However it runs all previous Elite versions at max settings ;) !
