Horizons Interdiction

Using a game pad or flight stick? I've had the game about a month and I've not had any trouble. I have a flight stick and I just keep pointed somewhat at the target point. Not had a failure yet.

either / or , they dance about like anything cant seem to keep them in the cross hairs

ive tried that but they keep wandering off left right up or down, are you supposed to go slow or full throttle

ive tried both never won one, got close once that's it, I use a flight stick as well
sorry, it is a Zen thing.... put your throttle in the blue sweet spot.

Ps, what are you flying as some ships turn like a fat cow....

Back in the day, when NPC's were overpowered and that blue circle seemed to be behind you half the time, it was a pain to escape.
Now that FD has balanced things a bit I find it easy enough to catch a ship. (Only done it about 2 or 3 times.)
And when the NPC tries to lock on to me I either submit and kill him or escape. Against NPCs it is easy for the player.
I always play solo, so I don't know if the same rules apply to commanders. If you need to practice, do it in solo.

I use keyboard and mouse. I have a good stick, but by the time I learn all the buttons I'll be dead of old age. :D

The slower your speed the better. >> https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B3UfwiG4zNJfY3FaR2FkZ19INVE <<
According to the information I found when researching this, the faster you are going, the farther away the INTERDICTOR can get hold of you and that gives the interdicting ship a longer "thread/string/leash" with which to jerk you around and pull you off the vector.
So, as soon as I suspect I am being stalked, I go to 5% speed. The video shows how easy it gets.

YMMV

Errrm, that sounds very interesting but that video shows you evading your opponent during interdiction, not before. Did you mean to say that you should reduce speed to 5% once interdiction starts? That'd be good to know too.

And I thought the length of the tether was dependent on the speed of the ship doing the interdicting? Is the wiki wrong/incomplete?

Eagerly looking forward to your reply (T9 owner here).

is there an engineered mod that vastly improves a ships ability to win interdiction, or does a CMDR's rank play into the value relative to victim's rank?

I was interdicted a while back by an Elite combat CMDR who basically won the interdiction game within seconds (my combat rank is Expert). At the start of interdiction, my bar was basically way down to start.... Against NPCs, I can usually win, but this time with the CMDR, I lost in a few seconds.

I only submit when I plan to fight.. While in supercruise as soon as I see that I am being stalked, or I see the threat message from the punk or I get the INTERDICTION warning, I set 5% speed.

The Wiki I read was very confusing. I finally came to understand that the distance at which you can be interdicted depends on YOUR speed (also the quality of the interdictor I think).
In the complete video I had just come out of HyperSpace and was scooping fuel when I got the threat message. I reduced speed to 5% and did cartwheels (elongated twisting somersaults to keep him out of the 50 degree cone behind me) trying for some distance from the star. When I had some distance, I straightened out and let him lock me. Then I beat the interdiction.

Watch the video and you will see that he had a hard time getting behind me even after I straightened out and he was only .35ls away when he did finally lock me. As best I can tell the maximum distance he had during the dual was about 1.1 ls.

Evading before is MUCH trickier.
When I first started playing and had not yet figured this out, I once evaded by diving into a gravity well so I out ran the PUNK.
Twice now I have run the punk into the star when he tried to get behind me while I was scooping fuel. This doesn't actually kill him. If you drop into normal space he will magically appear and attack you. That has happened both times.
Doing very slow evasive maneuvers (twisting somersaults) can delay the interdiction and may give you the chance to lock him ( I have the twisting somersaults programmed as a Voice Attack macro and it runs for about 2 minutes so I can get into the NAV panel and select and lock him.) ahead of time as I had done in the video so you can decide if you want to drop out and fight, or beat the interdiction.

As I said, I have NEVER SUBMITTED AND RAN. I have only failed to beat the interdiction 5 times. So I guess your question actually is what to do after you get dragged out or you simply gave up and submitted..

I escaped alive 4 of the 5 times. Died the first time on like hour three of game play.
The short answer is:
Pick a direction generally away from the punk.
Set 3-4 pips to engines and boost immediately.
Start the FSD charging.
Keep boosting till the FSD engages.

But, beating the interdiction is the best, safest training you can get for how to stay on a target so when you do start fighting, you can stay on target.

This is very interesting indeed. +rep for "I finally came to understand that the distance at which you can be interdicted depends on YOUR speed (also the quality of the interdictor I think)" in particular, since the Wiki is then wrong. 5% speed the moment I see the message it is. Thank you very much!

I think, as the interdictor, I have noticed that the ship you are using may change the dynamics of the interdiction, when I am in the Vette, I have no problems interdicting targets, but on the other hand, in my FAS, I couldn't get a single interdiction completed, it was frustrating. But if I am being interdicted, if I don't want to be, I won't be, simple to evade. I do the same thing whether I am the interdictor or the interdictoree, put my throttle in the 'Blue' zone and ride the wave, usually works well.

Some of what I read, (guess I will go back and dig it all out and put in one place. I don't think the WIKI is wrong, just confusing.) does seem to indicate that the ship type can also influence the outcome in both ways.
Clearly as the interdictee, having a maneuverable ship so you can stay on the escape target, makes beating it easier.

On the other hand, I would think that having a heavy ship as the interdictor would make pulling the other ship off their terget easier.

Pilot skill is also going to play a big part. So, the more times you beat it, the better you will get at beating it.

again.
YMMV

slow down and its easy to escape npc's

those from players can be diffrent, they can be pimped to wide angle which makes escaping a lot harder
if you been hit from a greater angle sidedrift of escape vector is lots stronger
