Aside from some of the juvenile "points" (for want of a better term) being used here, I don't think this is true. Eve is a very old game at this stage. I couldn't stand it personally, but it was extremely successful for a very long time.
I believe there's a huge market for PvP-centric games. I could cite several massive e-sports tournaments as examples. I also believe that Frontier are missing a trick here. I think (although I am open to the possibility that I'm missing something) that separating the PvP and carebear portions of this game would be good for everyone involved.
A PvP server, using Elite' s flight model, but Eve-esque mechanics, would solve a lot of problems. It would require a separate Dev team and resources devoted to it, but it wouldn't need the full 1 to 1 galaxy experience of the current game. The bubble or even a part of the bubble would be sufficient. I'm fairly sure that there would be some cross-over in terms of development also. I'm certain it would do well economically. The demand is there as demonstrated by the constant repetition of this topic on this forum.
It would allow the Devs to create content specific to each market, instead of teasing PvP players with half a game, and annoying carebears by occasionally exposing them to wannabe leet murder hobos.
I realise that it's a pie-in-the-sky suggestion, and there may be a lot more to it than I'm giving credit for, but I think it would make a lot of sense.
Yeh, some fair points in relation to there being a market for PvP, but only if done well, which, brings us right back to economics. Trying to have carebears and pvp cohabitate in the same galaxy is just not goingt o work, it hasn't worked til now and won't in the future. So that bring us to separating them which necessitates two environments.
This alone would be a mind melt, but we'll strive forward with the idea.. Next would require a complete new story driven idea for the pvp interactions, and we both know frontier suck lemons when it comes to story telling, so only god knows what they'd come up with. At the same time, they'd need to continue with the carebear system.
All this requires huge economic outlay, and to be frank, I disagree there is the monetary gain on the PvP side. That's an opinion of course.
Your assertion of the demand is based on the repitition of forum posts, but they're all from the same posters in the main.
Fact is, PvP was an add-on, and like most add-ons in Elite they were designed badly and implemented even worse.
Edit: It occurs to me reading back on this that is you extract the 'ganking' part of PvP, ie: take away the carebears, you're not left with a lot much are you?
