I notice you still haven't managed to source the any of the things you are attributing to me.
Nope, and I'm not going to dig back through 8 weeks of posts anytime soon, either. It's a well known fact that if I said the sky was blue or that fire trucks were red you would be first in line to point that in fact the opposite was true, and you did the same re the early stages of the crisis when I was urging reasoned preparation. I don't really care whether anyone else believes that because I'm not trying to score a forum point here but rather putting it to you just man to man.

Till the vaccine is deployed, this is the likely scenario.
The scale of the thing is still underestimated.

Yep. Agreed on both points. The whole point of the shut-down is two fold: give time to develop a vaccine and ease the burden on the medical system. And a vaccine will definitely buy more time. Unfortunately, the big question is how much are we willing to damage the economy in order to save lives? And, just to be clear, I'm in the lower end of the higher risk category, so I'm not just being callous with that question. :/

^This!^ had a VERY significant effect on the 'reaction time' of the richest nation in the world!

The degree of impact is unfortunately not only measured in time but in lives, extent of spread and economic secondary effects. Because of exponential math, a 4 week delay can represent a 10 TIMES worse outcome, catastrophic systems failure and national collapse.
This is true everywhere, for every cause of delay, but in this case it is especially egregious because of the size of the population affected. Going forward though if they lockdown early enough, it can be salvaged.

I'm really not sure why you think that, my politics are a bit left of yours aside from that we generally agree on most things 🤷‍♂️.

I went to the store for my weekly grocery shopping. No long lines, few people shopping. Good time to get in and out, fast.
Only two shelves were empty: Bread, and toilet paper. It was a shock to see the after effects of this week.

Another effect was what I was trying to describe as the secondary economic impacts. My store would be closed during the week, becoming a weekends only store. A list of the chains other stores that would be open all week was also posted.

Naturally, the chain's most profitable stores would remain open. Yup, price gouging, in a very subtle, public service kind of way. See the BBC movie "Threads", for an example. This way, they are saving the labor and inventory costs on the least profitable stores.

In Illinois, the other half of my metro area, all the restaurants are closed.
Must refill meds today, before store closes.

You can see the ripple effects in the economy now:

Apparently making low-paid people live hand to mouth is a crappy idea when the imaginary economy gets a real sniffle. Never woulda thunk.

What if we made a massive nuclear sized bomb that blows up in the atmosphere and despenses soap to everything it touches! 8o

We could clean up the world with massive soap explosions!! 🤗

Wash the unwashed masses and all that. :ROFLMAO:

If Asia needs antibacterial soap. We will deliver!! 🇺🇸 We have plenty of extra ICBM's laying around. Russia too actually. We could deploy the B-52's and our other bomb dropping weapons all over the world with soap bombs! We could do to the corona virus what we did to Vietnam! Irony ensuing here.

There is a military saying or song about, "We will take them from the so and so. We will fight them to the so and so?" Or something like that. What am I thinking of?

Maybe that is what the brits are doing again. They are waiting for us to soap nuke them.

I wonder if such a weapon could pull air pollution out of the air.

Most employee's in the food distribution trade have kids and zero hours contracts in the UK apparently. Nobody knows how they are going to pick, package and deliver food to restock the panic emptied supermarkets soon(tm).

The public libraries are closing here in STL.

Also, several banks are closing branches, restricting access to ATM's, and drive-thru's.

The only paper product I could find was boxed Kleenex, and paper napkins. Soup was emptying out, as was the meat department.

I was able to buy Imodium. :)

There is no isopropyl alcohol.

Bought the last dozen cans of store-label chunky chicken soup. The panic buying is such that survival needs Trump budget.

I wonder if peroxide is useful. You can gargle and wash with it probably. I wonder if it's useful as a surface sanitizer or similar.

Not sure what virus inactivation means exactly.

It's also safe to clean your toothbrush with hydrogen peroxide since the bristles can harbor bacteria.

It also gets the poo off your toothbrush! :poop:

I think you can gargle it if you dilute it in water.

Has to be the 3% kind possibly. don't know if it's good or bad vs corona.

To gargle with hydrogen peroxide:
  • Use a 3 percent concentration of hydrogen peroxide. Anything stronger is likely to cause irritation.
  • Mix two parts water with one part hydrogen peroxide.
  • Gargle, swishing the solution all around the mouth.
  • Tilt the head back and continue gargling for 30 seconds.
  • Spit the solution out.
The hydrogen peroxide may cause some foaming in the mouth, which is normal.
To avoid irritating the gums, consider limiting use to a few times a week.
Safety and risks

Hydrogen peroxide is safe for most people if they use it correctly. However, the compound can be harmful if a person uses it too often or if the concentration is too strong.
People should never gargle with food-grade hydrogen peroxide, which has a concentration of 35 percent. If a person accidentally swallows it, this can lead to serious gastrointestinal problems.
When mixing the solution, avoid inhaling hydrogen peroxide, as it can cause irritation in the lungs.
The compound can also irritate the eyes, so when spitting out the solution, take care to prevent it from splashing back toward the face.
Avoid swallowing hydrogen peroxide. Although swallowing small amounts of a 3 percent concentration usually does not cause serious problems, it may result in stomach upset and vomiting.
Children should not gargle with hydrogen peroxide if there is any danger of them swallowing it.
In rare cases, more serious side effects are possible. This 2016 medical report describes a person developing chemical colitis and gastritis after using a 3 percent hydrogen peroxide mouthwash during a dental procedure.
If irritation develops after gargling, and it does not go away in a few hours, stop using hydrogen peroxide for this purpose.

It’s always like that, if you need to prep after something happens usually you’re too late.

Some of the US state by state measures. Each will impact multiple economic sectors:

Saw this coming during the holiday 2019 period. A large number of people were out sick at work.

I wonder if there is a case for China (CCP) to pay reparations to the world for all the life lost and the trillions of Dollars down the toilet due to this now Pandemic.
Its not like China hasnt been warned before with previous outbreaks and they promised to clean house with regard to the illegal meat markets but never did.

This was avoidable, its been avoidable before... but it keeps happening.

I read an article the other day where they found 13 early cases who had no links to the wet market where it's thought to have started. I suspect we might not know for a while, if at all, where it definitively started.

Edit: Should add that the earliest case China have recorded was the end of November.
