I think this might be one of those instances where different people have vastly differing thresholds for where they deem something to be an insult, as opposed to jocular banter. As a general rule, when I actually insult someone (a specific, identified person, not speaking in general terms) I usually do so quite explicitly and I do it relatively rarely.
Edit: I do realise that what I've said there goes back to Poe, but I have a bit of a hard time with people who seem to spend much of their time online looking for serious, heartfelt insults and consequently see them everywhere.

It isn't what I have in mind either when I think of 'waste of bandwidth' content. It is easily ignored most of the time but can get irritating if there is too much of it.

On the former point,, as I already said there's probably a discussion to be had around where the line is drawn but to be honest, I don't think it's likely to be a particularly productive one. I'm certainly not one of these people who spends their days bellowing about snowflakes and such but I do find that many people's willingness to consider themselves insulted these days would have seen them spending maybe 12 hours a day in tears when I was growing up. And it's not that long ago.
For me, the biggest 'waste of bandwidth' content on here is stuff like (for example) the 10,000 threads about ship interiors, or the greater number about planetary texture tiling in Odyssey, each of which is filled with the same 10 people making the same post 50 times. The first one is reporting a problem, which is good. The second is reiterating it, which is fine. After the fifth or so, it's just whining and noise, adding nothing.
