Is bounty hunting real players a thing?

Easily fixed as well, bounty should be applied to CMDR, ship Auto pilot didn't earn the bounty so ship destruction should not clear CMDR's bounty, and it is not like change ship changes your name or PF id, always struck me as weird that my ship has "legal issues" when it was me that blew up all those faction civies
So bounties should stay on people forever?

No! till claimed, by destruction by ATR or player bounty hunter, or player pays them off, but the way it is currently i use a multi million CR ship to rack up huge bounties then fly to station hop in different ship put on a fake mustache? And fly right past the system security who were after me before, it is like cchanging ships gives me a new fake ID ?

You hop in your other ship and fly off you should still have the accumulated bounties attacked to you as a CMDR, Yeah the local faction are all sweet with you but the uncollected bounties should still be on you not a ship parked up somewhere

Appreciate the hardcore forum guys don't use it, but that's as far as it goes. I record all my sessions, logged in again just now, took 1m 5 seconds to find a match. longest I've waited this year is a few minutes. Funny thing is, members say they never use it, yet can't find a match.. Very strange
Well, I do try once in a blue moon.
Usually on a Friday coz that’s when it’s busy apparently.
But how long is it reasonable to wait?

Giving up on a thing that is repeatedly no good is not unreasonable.

looks at the OP date

Oh don't mind me, carry on

1 minute, that's 60 seconds, longer than I count when playing hide-and seek with my son! I totally see why this overstretches the patience of most people... not :D

Wow, I got really confused reading this before I realised this was a thread from 2017. While I haven't bothered paying off bounties in a while - I have a dedicated ship for criminal activities - I'm reasonably sure that suicidewindering to clear bounties isn't a thing anymore. Bounties are tied to ships, so blowing yourself up in a Sidewinder isn't going to do much unless you were also using that same Sidewinder for your criminal stuff.

Anyway. Player bounty hunting should be a thing. That is the optimum solution to the question of "How do we do the Punishment part of Crime and Punishment" - make it worthwhile for other players to do law enforcement. But that requires multiplayer interaction, and balanced multiplayer interaction at that. The very least they could do is uncap the player bounties that can be claimed, even before the actual hard bit of balancing PvP.

The pvp ballance is a huge problem that has been danced around for a long long time now. The crime and punishment system, and infact the whole bounty system fails in regards to pvp of any kind due to the lack of ballance.

I see alot of complaints about bullet sponges and how long it takes to kill NPCs but players are the apex of bullet sponge and can esentialy never die unless they choose to. Along with the meta being pretty narrow and stagnant.

I still hold deep down a glimmer of hope for it one day to be addressed...

However.. the only way i have found to bounty hunt os actualy to fly a sleeper ship like an asp and wait like a helpless noob in a CG system and eventualy some murder nugget in an FDL or such, will come to you. Then you just have to win the fight before they jump.. so make sure you take enough damage thrugh the fight to make it look like they still might win dispite there shields having dropped etc. Then.. ram them! Or brake out the packhounds at the last second when they had reached the conclusion you had ran out of ammo or some thing because you had not been using them. You need to trick them into thinking they are going to win and indeed are winning and then deliver a killer blow out of no where. The only way realy is to ram them as that actualy does damage. You might get lucky once or twice..

Not really. I wish it was. But people good luck tracking down as even if they were not hiding in Solo or actively blocking you it would be extremely difficult to find them with the tools FDev provides.

I wish, after achieving some high notoriety level due to PKing, the bounty lasted a week regardless of whether they have been BHed or not; the wanted person was forced to be in Open only; and the Galmap clearly showed their present location. That way we could mercilessly gank them over and over and, more often than not, give them a taste of their own medicine. It's a dream I have.

On another note, this Sidewinder cheat, it is a CHEAT, needs to go away like yesterday, remedy is ridiculously overdue.

Can someone explain this?

I thought bounties were tied to the ship, not the CMDR. How would getting in a different ship to suicide erase the bounty on your other ship?

Or am I not understanding how it's used? lol

Yup, C&P needed a PvP crime component.

Crimes against upstanding members of the Pilots Federation lead to:
  • A specific PF Bounty
  • Locked into Open
  • Top 10 Most Wanted List that lists recent location - the more wanted, the more recent
  • Expulsion from the PF
  • Harassment from NPC authorities and loss of docking privileges in more secure space
  • and the ultimate sanction - no insurance / no ship recovery

Easy System, you kill a Player or Ki, u get 70% Bounty of the police he need to pay for his ship.

The Bounty will stay until you loose the same amount for police or pay it as punishment by government. Totaly wayn what you do, ship change, name change, the Bounty will stay until u pay back the complet amount of money.

Only way to pay les than the complet money is, to fly to a spezial pirat place and buy new Identity for 60% of the complet Bounty, as Punishment you need to change your ingame name. Bounty Hounters will whait there for sure XD

Who kills the Outlaw get 50-60% of the bill he has to pay for his ship. The insurance company pay it because they loose so mutch money if player ships get lost XD

So it is interesting for the players to hunt Outlaws, he can do what he want, he will pay the money back and everyone think twice befor kill someone (=

Just my 5 cent for it^^ Maybe someone read it and think "Karma is a good idea!" XD Sry for English, not first lang XD

You are just precious.

Greetings Commanders,

I've always enjoyed doing RES bounty hunting vs. NPCs.. but was wondering if bounty hunting real players is common? I don't often see 'wanted' players.. which would make it quite difficult to find criminals to bring to judgement! If anyone else is familiar with this type of playstyle, where might be a good spot to look for these scoundrels? Feelin like doing some enforcing after finishing my latest build ;)

Wish me luck! o7

Yes this is a thing and yes there are plenty of Ganking players that are wanted.
I've recently been ganker hunting at Dav's Hope where a group of gankers are operating. I made the mistake of going into Open when I was gathering mats and I had not dismissed my ship there last week and promptly got my unarmed JC blown up. So I'm back for a bit of retribution 🙂
Your welcome to join me in some pvp if that's your kind of thing.

Most of the engineers have wanted players lurking in Open. Especially the two FSD engineers. The main Goid and Guardian sites are other good locations. Obviously Shinrarta Dezrah is a hot bed for this too... CGs where a thing too but they have obviously gone now.
Hope that helps.

Cmdrs should be able to place bounties on Peoples heads. This would be payable from their own balance of course.

Then it would be worth it

Most of the wanted players, some of whom will have racked up a decent bounty (100m+), would welcome being hunted in open. There is the local bounty board which gives their location, but we need a galaxy-wide bounty board. Perhaps Frontier are scare that it would only encourage the criminals who crave for fame ...
