What an embarrassing thread this is for the Elite: Dangerous community.
Chris Roberts is clearly NOT taking a jab at the vision of Elite: Dangerous but is rather comparing funding levels and attributing the difference to how CIG have put their vision "out there" (via marketing). The vision being "out there" produced the hype which people supported with their money.
It is such a shame how so many people want to find anything negative in regards to Star Citizen and will jump to conclusions about something before really thinking things through.
Go and read the quote again and THINK this time people.
Does "putting a vision out there" increase a vision? Well does it?
People can use this thread and point to how fickle many Elite: Dangerous backers are because they make baseless attacks on Star Citizen.
Well done folks.
You can't make content mods for WoW. Not sure if donations for mods are a thing, never heard of it, but maybe it's possible. But again, WoW mods are interface based and can help you improve your UI somewhat, but add no additional content to the game. WoW gets longevity through expansion content when existing content becomes exhausted. And by having terribly addicting gameplay.Mod/addons, free to use, but don't you donate to some of the better ones ?
I am american and to be honest I was interested in ED first and am still more interested in this game. We get our gaming rumors and info on the web which really has no borders, we are all one geek nationAye, he's talking money. And yes, he is better at marketing possibly. Or perhaps it is more the typical American vs the typical English attitude.
But mainly, Elite barely made it over the pond, while Wing Commander etc is well known over there. I am certain our American friends on here can attest to that.
I think once E:D is finished and, if not before, when the first expansion comes then they may take more notice and sells may rise considerably. Perhaps SC is selling most of what it will sell already, while Elite: Dangerous may sell far more down the road. Who knows?
However, in scope, SC does not even come near E:D, so the vision is definitely on FD's side. I think SC might be a grand game in itself, but it is a different approach to the space flight genre. I wish them both the best.![]()
I'll give you $30 for your Premium Beta account. Right now! My e-mail is in my profile. hell I'll give you $40 for it.

And for me.He was making a joke regarding game development in the 1980s. And it was actually pretty funny, at least for me.
I don't know about you guys but, after seeing Wing Commander the movie I lost all faith in Chris Roberts "vision" and directing skills.![]()
I also like the fact that David always seems calm, polite and does not throw expletives around in public. He seems like someone with upstanding character rather than a colorful car salesman who tells you whatever they think you want to hear f bombs included.

I have not met David, but he seems a great guy.
I have met Chris Roberts. Visited his office in L.A. last summer and he gave me a tour, plus sat me down at his desk and showed me some actual in-game (hangar) stuff of the Constellation prior to it being released. We talked about the game a bit. One of his programmers had me sit down and try an Oculus Rift.
Then Roberts, Sandy, and some others on his staff and I all went across the street to a hamburger joint. I offered to pay for their food. Chris asked me several times "You sure? You don't have to do that!" I insisted, as they were being so kind to me.
After eating I told Chris I really needed to be going, but he insisted that since I had come a long way to visit that I hang around for just an hour or so while he had a Skype meeting with the Ausin crew. I said ok.
After the meeting he resumed showing off stuff to me and concluded with giving me a Star Citizen t-shirt before I left and telling me that he thought my visit to him was indicative of the great support that his fans have given him.
So.... I've backed both games. I'm actually more excited about Elite these days than SC. I don't like the flight model as exhibited in Arena Commander. I can argue the pluses and minuses of both game's all day. However, I would never impugn Chris' character or claim that he's not an upstanding guy with a valid vision for his game. He treated me, a single solitary fan who does not run any big gaming news site and would give him NO free publicity, with the utmost respect.
Say what you will about the quality of Star Citizen, but Chris believes in his product. He's not a snake-oil salseman and he doesn't steal lollipops from babies. He doesn't hate E.D. either - just check out the Kickstarter video where he, Gary Whitta, and Braben Skyped and talked about their respective visions.
