Is Elite Dangerous a reboot of EVE Online?

I just don't recognise this as happening with ED where it is. The vision remains intact from where I sit, albeit skeleton as of now, with features beyond original expectation but not diverse from it, still being constructed (we can't yet approach planets at all). Loss of the original vision might be people's fear but I just don't see it happening in what's released, especially while it's (1) still very early days and (2) a coding operation (a modular skeleton ALLOWS all the nice things, people want to see later).
I hope you are correct. I spent the first few months after release saying exactly these things. I remember using the words "placeholder" and "work in progress" rather a lot in my attempts to remedy what I saw as forum panic. Maybe I am being unfair in my fears but what with Offline-gate, the way the DDF have been treated and dev posts to the tune of , Escape Capsules, Multiple Commanders, Not Soon(tm), "Exploration is solid", "We are changing how multi-tier NPC's will work", selective stoney silence to a range of pertinent questions re. promised features. I am doing my best.

to keep it simple, EVE is not a space sim.

Please define sim. If you mean "flying my ship"-part only then yes, ED is obviously closer to sims than EVE (although it's not too realistic either). But there's more to it. Everything else... EVE simulates a lot better: dystopian universe which is truly "living, breathing", dynamic market, wars, manufacturing, trading, conflicts... the very human nature, if you wish. ED has long way to go before it reaches the depths of EVE. I was playing it for 7 years and I still can't tell that I experienced absolutely everything there is.

Don't get me wrong. I loved playing Elite back on the school BBCMicro and later on my Amiga. What worries me a little though is that alot of what Elite Dangerous seems to be offering is already catered for by the game EVE Online:

Other than a possible single player option for E:D, what other ways can the new game differentiate itself from EVE?

p.s I have pledged my money via kickstarter this morning!

More like Eve Online and any of the other space sim games are clones of or at least influenced by Elite.
