Came here to point out the "inara / galaxy / security report" page, where you can find other humans to shoot, if you are in fact human, and if that's what you want:

FWIW I've always viewed Elite as a space dogfighting game, so on that basis, I like having other humans attacking me, and I like attacking other humans (provided they are rocking equipment that demonstrates they know what they're doing). I don't grief, but I do sometimes attack folks within the bounds of reasonable roleplay (e.g. PvP piracy, contended community goals, conflict zones etc). I don't attack n00bs (although it's sometimes fun to wing up and escort people). I have ships built specifically for multicrew, and I play multicrew myself, because it's always fun and occasionally hilarious. It's especially fun with AX.
I would never attack an explorer ship. I might pirate a trader. I wouldn't hang around engineers waiting for a fight, that seems vaguely dishonourable to me. I make an exception for Lave Radio staff - all of whom are skilled enough and mean enough to take it, and should definitely be engaged on sight.
But obviously, other views are valid; everyone's entitled to be as wrong as they choose to be
