What does it have to offer that you need it?
Over a year ago there was a staff post mentioning a 'new' AA engine... It disappeared soon after.I don't know if this is a flaw/limitation in the Cobra engine but it seems it became more of an issue in Odyssey.
No problem, your choice, surely?I was a Kickstarter backer. I refuse to the play this game until Frontier fix this mess.
AA in Elite Dangerous is fundamentally broken. I'm quite surprised more people don't complain about it. Shimmering and jaggies everywhere. I'm running Ultrawide, 4K with everything on Ultra and game is just horrible to look at most of the time - mainly when on foot.
Bad for AA problem, to be more preciseI thought, FSR and DLSS are upscaling methods? That's... actually a bad thing.
Definitely the only solution for AA issue at the moment. But yeah, comes at a performance cost. What you can do to improve image quality is render at 150% the resolution. (A.k.a supersampling 1.5x. If your GPU can cope.) It looks beautiful, but will of course increase power consumption, therefore heat, noise and cost. OTH some folks run 4090s anyway and/or don't limit their fps, because of... magical thinking? the planet I guess...![]()
Playing games uses more energy than just staring at a browser or text document (unless one is streaming from a server farm, naturally) so the ideal situation would be for everyone in the world to stop playing PC / console games and instead switch of their devices and do something else that doesn't consume electricity...Fork the planet I guess...
There are other ways of reducing energy usage in your life such as setting the central or other type of heating down to a point where pipes won’t freeze over winter and help the wool industry by buying and wearing jumpers rather than tropical weight shirts.I thought, FSR and DLSS are upscaling methods? Or play CP2077 without a framerate limit and Raytracing switched on.There are other ways of reducing energy usage in your life such as setting the central or other type of heating down to a point where pipes won’t freeze over winter and help the wool industry by buying and wearing jumpers rather than tropical weight shirts.

Nice rundown...A brief history of the new AA engine...
August 10th '21 - "Some changes will go in Update 7 or 8, with significant improvements, but a full anti-aliasing system is slated for later this year."
September 7th '21 - "anti-aliasing as a whole remains under investigation."
October 5th '21 - "Anti-aliasing improvements will come in Update 8 with additional ones planned for the future."
November 16th '21 - "Investigation into further improvements is set to continue, however secondary to performance improvements. To a degree, aliasing has been mildly improved somewhat due to planet texture generation changes, rather than an anti-aliasing system change."
July 21 '23 - "Over the course of multiple Odyssey updates, the team have worked hard to address as many of the reported issues around anti aliasing and this ticket will now be closed. We are grateful for all of the feedback you provided throughout."

It is upscaling afaik. You don't have good gfx, you use upscaling. There is quality going away but I guess it's better than to run 1046x768 resolution. Why so many people are desperate for it - I don't know. It's either the holy grail or just bots posting generic stuff on forums. And this is not the only forum - such threads must go in the millions by now world wide.I thought, FSR and DLSS are upscaling methods? That's... actually a bad thing.

Of course it isn't...That's not how sustainability works.

this will not happenThis is the one of my most needed graphical options!
Is there any info about this or ... any responses from Developers about this?

So to answer your question... FSR2 and/or DLSS3/4 could maybe go someway to fix these ongoing issues with AA.
