Is the game trolling us with Belugas?

I am convinced the Beluga is the Volvo sedan of the 34th Century, flown by muttering old codgers in tweed jackets mumbling obscenities at all the young hoons in their fast ships ...

I don't think it's just Obsidian Orbital, I get this literally everywhere. I can sit for an hour on the landing pad, but as soon as I hit the launch it mysteriously gets busy with Belugas and god knows what else. Yeah, it's getting old.

Does that mean 'FD wants the user base to suffer'?

No, I don't think they want the base to suffer... Just a very odd mechanic that has so many of them in Maia... I guess all those rich folks have nothing to do so they are out for excitement... Sorta like the crowds as the Battle of the First Bull Run...

Some people turn everything into a huge issue. Must be a depressing way to live. :p

Yeah, I don't get it.. I get frustrated, leave the game and then realize what I needed to do or just that it is bugged and move on. It's game, I try to keep that in mind when posting in the forums.

There's a tourist beacon just a few km outside Obsidian Orbital. The Belugas there then dock at OO. That's why there's so many when you try to leave.

This. Many Belugas spawn at tourist beacons. These ones then go docking into OO, thus it seems like a lot, but it's actually normal for a tourist beacon.

I was docked at a station earlier when one of the darn things blew up behind me as i was checking my rusted paint job on my Anaconda. Pretty silly to see the thing just poof off screen and plop onto some poor guy's pad.

rip like ~200 passengers on that beluga, probably never saw it coming

I think FD trolled all of us by creating the Beluga in the first place. Used to be it was a straight upgrade from the Orca other than speed, but since then, Orca's weight got dropped, which noticeably improved its jump range and shield capacity. Beluga got nothing. So Orca is now the best for luxury runs, Anaconda the best for bulk passenger runs, and AspX best for tourist runs.

Too bad. I rather liked the look of Beluga.

If it's any consolation, game also trolls you if you fly a Beluga. When you're exiting the station you sometimes get some variety of a large ship flying to you and wedging you in mailslot. Orcas are the sneakiest, lining to the mailslot with laterals so you can't see them until it's too late. With other Belugas, exiting to the main menu is your best bet.

They are incredibly dangerous. One wedged my anaconda in the mail slot and we both died together as the station killed us for blocking the entrance, not long ago.

Yes this happened to me the other day loosing all I asked the dev’s to reinstate my ship and data which that did but the amount of beluga traffic has become a nonsense and needs to be tone down.

They need to delete those ridiculous tacked-on wings. The NPCs regularly get stuck in the mail slot. They are officially pointless.

It would be enough if they went all the way with the folding mechanism. The tail fins fold about two meters outwards, which doesn't really do much. If we could retract the whole tail assembly, it would look cool, but more importantly, Beluga would not need three tugboats to dock.

When i fly my Beluga ang game goes "make way for larger vessels", THAT is being troled by game.

True. Still dont get the absurd fines, they look plastic and bolt-on. Easily the poorest art in the game.

And yet tens of thousands of times better looking than any Core Dynamics, Zorgon Peterson, or Lakon Spaceways ship. Only the Gutamaya ships can compare in appearance, but most lag behind in terms of overall performance.

No doubt the Beluga is an "interesting" looking ship and guess that is enough for some. The question that constantly eats at me is the existence of the huge wings. In the vacuum of space, no ship needs wings or even contours of any kind. Heck, every ship could be varying sizes of a cinder block and be just as maneuverable in space. I realize no one wants to buy or fly a cinder block regardless of how cool the paint jobs FDEV could come up with, but wings? really? wings? in space?

This is a case of Frontier "getting ahead of themselves" :D
The liner ships are supposed to behave will in the atmosphere. They are submersible, even. :D

If David Braben is looking forward to the infamous big game hunting, for me, taking a Dolphin into the sea and watching the reefs grow is the top thing I ever expected of Elite.

We gave you more then enough tips on how to land and undock in the beginners forum. Dont get salty at FD mate... ;)

I've gone in using the DC, there's been a beluga sitting on the designated pad, but the software does not recognize the existence of the beluga so continues the docking sequence which it cannot complete as the beluga prevents touchdown, the only way to complete is leaving the station, cancel docking and try again, in all this time, that beluga has not moved, this is an NPC ship btw, not some player blocking.

Saw this exact thing no less than half a dozen times yesterday.
