Is the Krait Phantom Good?

Depends on the loadout... of course, if you mount 4 cannons on your Phantom, the C7 PD won't do you much good ;)

With railguns, imperial hammers, long range beams and the like even a g5 charge enhanced C7 PD can feel undersized.

A large PD doesn't increase DPS, but it does increase DPM.

Yeah, you can burn out everything with long range beams, what LR beams are doing on one of the fastest medium ships anyway, as one might think a ship with that speed would be able to take weapons to see places. But its a slow accelerating drifting hog and feels like a purposefully crippled ship.

Quad plasma ?
I did that, and it kind of worked, but there are always ships doing a better job than the Phantom, whatever I try to do with it (besides exploring).

Its my bubble jumper with guns, and it does see daylight sometimes.

It’s my bubble taxi, it will get me from A to B quickly, and can look after itself (a little), or run, should there be any trouble.

Also used for material and data gathering, Guardian sites, that sort of thing.

For exploration I prefer the AspX (the view from the window is very restricted on the Krait)
For fighting, look elsewhere. It wouldn’t do so well in a Haz Res
For a general utility ship, both the Python and Krait Mk II beat it hands down

But, as a bubble taxi, I think it’s the best option (although the DBX is also viable).

Here’s my taxi build:-

Well, I think the existence of the Krait Mk2 spoils everything else in the medium ship class in terms of firepower... C7 PD with 3l, 2m and a fighter bay is just insane.

But apart from the Mk2 there are not many ships which can compete with the Phantom. The only other medium ship with a C7 PD is the Python, which has a slightly worse hardpoint convergence and is considerably slower and less maneuverable.

As a mostly fixed weapons user, If I had to make a chart of the most efficient medium Haz RES bounty hunters, the Phantom would be my second choice right after the Mk2.

Nothing wrong with that :) There can always be only one absolutely best ship for any single given task. The rest comes down to flavor and personal preference.
Oh absolutely :)
I can understand the enthusiasm people vent when looking at the specs of the thing, I mean what is not to like (apart from the terrible shields). I also thought a ship with a C7 distro begs to be used, but for some reason I never got the phantom to do other things than jumping and going fast. Could be (and prolly is) me as well :)

Thats kind of the issue I have with the Phantom. It seems to drift more, has weaker internals, lacks a fighter bay, has one less C3 hardpoint, has weaker shields with only speed as advantage, and because its a pretty slow accelerator, I even would not want to call it a advantage. Its too broken to make anything else than an explorer out of it, imo.

You can fight in it, and its a great training ship as it doesn't care one bit about pip setting, so there is that :)

Nope, that's what I use mine for as well and many others too, because that is what it simply does best, at least when lightweighted. If someone absolutely wants the best possible jump range, they will still use the Anaconda, even though that one turns like an oil tanker in supercruise. As bubble taxi I use the DBX, because that is the ship with the best jumprange fully A rated and maxed out to be ready to fight of interdictions.

Errr... FDL?
The Phantom, but especially the Mk2 beat the FdL in PvE / HazRes because it has the bigger Distributor.
You can sustain beam laser fire for longer, and the huge Distri recharges your biweave better.
Also the Mk2 can permaboost on 2 pips, making it an extremely lazy-to-use ship in PvE.

I'd take a Mk2 over a FdL all day for HazRes (but the Corvette over the Mk2 for similar reasons).

I disagree. 4 frags and a huge PA really Rips NPC's to pieces. It tumbles much better between the rocks, it improves your flying/fighting skills, and the time I need to reload now, I would otherwise be burning off by sitting in front of hull tanked Python. Last and not least, I've been caught pants down a little too often in a PVE Krait by another commander, in a frag the lance, you can even take on those. Krait MK2 is a very good ship, but never again :)

You're not wrong, but your mission description is different to mine ;)
