Also, Alt-tab is very important to me and I don't actually like the idea of being so immersed that my kids can't come and speak to me etc.. That said, I really want to try VR, I just won't pay that much to do so.. I want someone I know to get it so I can go and try it out without investing any cash
Completely understand you wanting to try it first, as it's not for everyone (particularly if you're prone to motion sickness). I don't ever get sick on cars/planes/boats, but even I've felt a little nauseous with my Rift on occasions - not really with Elite but noticeably with World of Diving, when swimming along the sea bed and looking in a different direction to the one in which I'm moving.
That said, the immersion and overall experience of VR is something you simply cannot describe to someone, as words simply don't do it justice. Elite in particular is just epic - I'd got totally bored of it, hadn't played for months. Now I'm spending hours just buzzing around planet surfaces for the fun of it, and peering round behind my pilot's seat, just to make sure no Thargoids are hiding there
A friend of mine came round to try my Rift the other night. He's interested in VR, but had been very non-committal about investing, despite me evangelising about my Rift.
Within literally a minute of experiencing it for himself though, his words were something along the lines of, "Oh my god, I need to order one of these tomorrow. This is ****ing amazing"
