Is there a fix planned for the System map/Galaxy Map?

Those need to be moved back and made proper use of on the Oculus side, I assume it's the same for all types.
It is SERIOUSLY in need of FDev help

i keep seeing all these threads about the horrors of using the galmap in VR..I don't get it.. I can plot a course and navigate the map faster in vr with my hotas than i can in 2d with a mouse/KB.. what is the issue? if someone can point me to the location of my joyconfig file i'll happily post it. (it's for an X52/X52pro)

I have no issues navigating the System or Galaxy Map in VR -- like others have mentioned, I find it easier in VR than in 2D at this point. Just don't use the mouse.

What I consider a bug is the behaviour of the pop-up info cards that appear when you highlight a system, body or station. The have an adjustment when you move your head, but it appears that there is a sign error -- if you turn your head left, the card slides left, not right.

I'm not sure what the OP might be referring to, but this is what I consider broken about the map in VR. I suspect t its not so much a sign error, as the pop ups aren't being drawn in 3d space, but on the "surface" of the 2d projection of that space, which works fine when that really is the case (flat 2d monitor), but when the viewer is also in that space, it breaks. I suspect the holograms on the console have similar issues, as they can look a bit strange when in VR and you move your head around, but its less obvious in their case.

Also, it would be nice to have some sort of VR friendly text-input method (this issue is not unique to elite). In my case, I can touch type and I know how to find the home keys, but sometimes having to use the keyboard for something can be awkward when in VR. The bookmarks have helped a lot though.

I have my galaxy map working finally (changed to joystick use)

BUT...
I can't for the life of me get System Map to work correctly. I can't click on anything

The system map is a little trickier than the galaxy map, but it's still perfectly usable. I find the best way is to zoom out (using HOTAS throttle), move to the planet / station you want, then zoom in. It should now be "selected" so you can plot a course etc.

I can navigate the Gal Map with my hotas, but it's a lot slower than zipping around with the mouse in 2D. I guess I just need more practice. I think I'll stop using the Nav Panel until I really get the hang of it. In any case, the 3D effect makes it well worth learning how to use.

I think the Galaxy Map in VR is fine as it is. It's actually a quite clever design.
Those threads with complaints that pop up every week are usually from players that try to use it with the mouse.
You can explain ad nauseam that a mouse that moves on a 2D plane is just not the right tool to select objects in a 3D star field. That works relatively well on a flat screen where the 3D field is projected onto a 2D surface but not in real 3D. But most just ignore this and continue to complain.

The system map is a different story. This is effectively a 2D map. Here a mouse or better a "select where you look" cursor would acutally make sense. Navigating with the "lateral thrusters" on the HOTAS is annoyingly slow and cumbersome here and requires a lot of zooming in and out.

I'm playing with an xbox controller and both work perfect for me. Annoyingly I either haven't found the buttons or it's just plain impossible to open the collapsed system menu options so I need to use the mouse for that. Only tiny issue with system map is it could be doing with being a bit quicker, both zoom speed and scroll. Galaxy map is bang on for my money.

I'm using the xbox controller as well but I have no problem with opening the collapsed menus. On my setup it is mapped to one of the directions on "the cross-shaped button" (don't know the correct term for it). Have you tried that? Maybe I use a different mapping from you. I don't know.

If you don't have the grid on, you're gonna have a bad time.

If you have the grid on and are still having problems, what problems are you having? Sometimes when I log in I don't even fly, I just futz around in the map for a half hour or so looking at things...
