Is there a history of crimes I've committed?

Thanks all for the replies. If there's no crime history then guess I'll just have to be a bit more careful when there's lots going on around me to think about, plus I've never really been in a similar situation so I was a bit panicky at the time, anything could have happened. I'll check my in-game logs to see if anything can be found there. I appreciate everyone trying to ascertain what may have happened but I wouldn't be able to confirm if anyone is right so I'll be leaving it at that, however, I have replied to some of your responses.

A couple of quick side questions:
Do the feds turn from green to red on the radar when attacking CMDR's?
Does using a Kill warrant Scanner with fast scan modification also speed up the regular scan?

Good to know, this is the first time I've ever given in to their demands. I'm think one of them made an initial demand which I ignored hence their attack, a 2nd made a later demand which is the one I responded to to try and save my butt. I guess it was too late by then.

I've shot fed ships by accident a few times recently without response but yeah, it's possible I shot a clean ship. Would the feds attack me for an unsustained stray shot on a clean ship?

I only mentioned a 'haz res (high)' so yeah it was one of them and I'm 100% allied with the controlling faction in that system. I was doing a massacre mission on a rival faction's members and it was them who tried to rob me (I have 0% rep with them).

I don't and wouldn't even know where to begin with that site's tools!

I've had the bounty for maybe a month now and since then have visited the very same system to do massacre missions on the same faction's pilots without incident a few times. Happily bounty hunted alongside the feds, using them as support so I didn't think my measly 200Cr bounty was a concern.

Do you know if they scanned you? If you have any kind of bounty anywhere, and any cop or bounty hunter scans you, they will go for you.

Unless I've been too careful in the past?!

But seriously, the cops won't normally scan you unless they're bored. You wouldn't show as wanted there as I don't think your bounty was with them. But, if you have a dormant bounty from elsewhere, and they scan you, the result will be what happened for you.

I know you're not overly concerned now, but I thought I'd write this out for you for future help really. In other words, if you ever have a bounty, either expect this to happen at some point, or better still - if you go dock in a low security system with an Interstellar Factor, you can pay it off then and it's cleared. Let me know if I can explain that bit in more detail mate :)

The lesson here is that panic kills. Know the limits of your situational awareness and when that limit approaches - before it becomes overwhelming - then it's time to make like an exorcist and get the devil out of there!

Absolutely agree with this - never be afraid to do a Brave Sir Robin and gallop away on your steed! After all, you're not the Black Knight, and it's not just a scratch...!

Happily bounty hunting in a haz res (high) when I'm attacked by NPC's which soon ended with me being shot down by security and I have no idea why. The NPC's were trying to rob me so I put up a fight but once I was getting overwhelmed I gave them what they asked for (1t of cargo) but they didn't stop. I then proceeded to shoot at every red target on my radar and it was soon after that that I was killed by security.

I don't have a problem with that but I'm left scratching my head as to what happened. My only guess is that I shot the feds by accident (via crossfire) but as far as I know this doesn't normally result in reply unless attack is sustained and I wouldn't have targeted a green ship. I did have a small 200Cr bounty which I'd had a while and I've been bounty hunting in the same system with it a few times before without an issue so I don't think that was the problem.

So I'm wondering if there is any way I can check what I did wrong?

The 200cr bounty is consistent with "assault" - the term used when you graze someone with stray/friendly fire, as for a complete list of your transgressions? I was going to say something about Santa's naughty list.

I've found that if you're allied with a faction you can shoot the space cops and not get a bounty, but the guy you shot might turn hostile. It happens frequently when I'm in a HiRES. I just wake out and wake back in and everything is good again.

I always think it's funny when one of the security guys scatches another's paint, they end up fighting each other and everyone else simply ignores them.

A not-so-recent change now allows shooting a wanted ship before the scan completes. If they turn out to be wanted, no crime is committed.
I wouldn't be so sure of that. I got a fine for "dangerous discharge of weapons" or something like that, when it was only me and the guy who was trying to rob me (I dropped out of SC to get the jump on them so they didn't spawn in behind me)

No idea if I was scanned but like I said before I'd been bounty hunting in that system a few times before with my own bounty and it was never an issue so I presumed that I would be safe. I find it odd that an ally would kill me over a 200Cr bounty, but if that's how the game works then I'll have to be more careful.

Thanks for the offer but I'm aware of the Interstellar Factor, I just never bothered to pay it off to avoid the unwanted hassle of being sent to a detention centre for such a small bounty.

I think I did run on a couple of occasions but only boosted to a safe distance to regen my shields before returning to fight it out. I guess my balls are bigger than my brain

I think the bounty was something to do with me loitering on a pad when I should have launched. I was at a planetary base and went out in my SRV to test re-boarding to my ship but took too long about it.

That shirt! Just....(shudders) no!!

Actually have this apart of the player codex would be kind of cool to have a long rap sheet.

@Safester you only go to jail if you hand yourself in to the faction that issued the bounty. Using an IF only costs you credits.

I've also got a criminal record

Thank the Lord it wasn't "Agadoo" by "Black Lace"
Now that would be criminal  :ROFLMAO: ;)
