Is there a single bit of this game...

No sure what's unusual or worrying about people being critical of everything.

Infinite spectrum of tastes and preferences...can't make everyone happy about anything.

Flight mechanics have been criticized before. I think one of the more commons gripes at launch was how ships yawed.

And the speed limit cap, and how FA off worked, and everything else.

I could write a book on my criticisms of the flight model. It's still the best one I've tried in any game played by more than five people.

I think the sound effects have been praised in general (and are pretty awesome).
Station voicecoms were much approved.
I was about to put the Docking Computer forward but you're right, some people complain :)

I've actually seen a few criticisms of station traffic control

In summary, it seems what the OP wants to know is why the community isn't a homogeneous mass of happy fans without a criticism in the world. But, dear OP, we are not a single bloc, so you're going to see every opinion under the sun. It's a great thing for the game and community as it means we get exposed to ideas we might not have considered ourselves.

To reframe the premiss of the OP...

Has anyone been a member of any video game community that did not have a significantly negative section of users on the forum?

Given the sheer number of middle-aged+ players, grumping and griping is just something us old folk do.

When you get to be our age, you'll understand. When it's pills for breakfast, pills with lunch, pills with dinner, pills before bed - pills for in bed... well, maybe you'll understand, but probably not.

Other than that.. I'm pretty sure Fuel Scoops don't get criticized, nor does the background music, or the clear indication that a flat Earth is not orbited by Sol.

Complaints means that people have played the game and formed an opinion.
It means that they are passionate about the game and wish to voice their concern.
It means that, in most cases, they want the game to improve.

I think the alternative would be much worse.

An interesting observation is that I now frequently read praise for the game on Reddit.
While Reddit used to be rather critical before, in my view it seems to be rather balanced now. The forum now seems to get the more critical posts.
While there are elements in the game that I don't like or think should be done differently (Powerplay, Engineers), I think ED is in a good place and improving.

Edit: I'm one of those grumpy middle aged players by the way.

...that has never been criticized to death by this community?

I'm seriously concerned. It is a singular phenomenon. And a negative trend. Every single bit, code snippet, module, patch, feature, game design, even things that still have to come in have been despised by someone (me too!) on this forums.
We are at a point that we often speculate on what next expansion will bring in and start to criticize it! We are a perfect model of modern opulent western society. We have amazing things, we have everything, but we are perpetually dissatisfied. To the many who start threads with the "I have put xxxx hours into this game but...", just think about the beauty of that. You have a toy that was able to keep you nailed for so many hours of your lives. It is something very rare. There are so few masterworks in gaming industry capable of such addictive potential. So let's stop thinking about what we don't like every now and then, and try to enjoy what we do like of Elite: Dangerous. Will we? ;)

I don't think the credits roll has been criticised...

Flight mechanics were getting criticised even before Alpha 1 was released - back then the big forum war was Newtonians versus People Who Hated FE2s Flight Model.

The "flight" model is pretty much universally praised as is the look of the game and the size of the galaxy. Those things are mostly praised because they are what FD is good at.
Given the number of people complaining about having to fly 5000 LY to unlock Palin, having to travel for more than a few jumps to reach Colonia/Beagle Point/wherever, and so on, I think that there's a substantial group who would rather the galaxy was much smaller.

I moan and groan about this game all the time, but I also praise it when prasie is due. Just not one of the blind being led by the blind.

There's criticism, there's constructive criticism, and then there's whining.

You should always aim for the second.

^this
ppl criticise it mostly cos of shallow content, i hope it will change this and next year!
Devs should listen overall critics, and improve it. Biggest mistake would be if they listen fanboys who thinks game is perfect, they are working against this game!

I don't like your avatar. You should change that. In fact we should have a community poll about it.

:D

But polls have been criticized too!!! So... [big grin]

According to the nice thoughts flow of participants here, "criticism" is a good fact. It avoids FD from going the wrong direction. I accept that.

My post, friends, is not about the importance of criticism or being a "blind lead by blinds". It's a meditation about how odd it is modern concept of crowdfunding and community feedback based development.

Sometimes we forget we are the players, not the developers. We forget to play.

FDev learn from criticism, hence why we have a fun game. Heaping endless praise on bad decisions results in the shambolic situation experienced by backers of Elite's rival.
