Is there Enough Actual New Content in Beyond Chapter Four?

After the exploration reveal I kind of lost track of what's even been shown so far. Just the exploration and BGS streams, right?

Dedicated mission servers are coming, plus the new lighting engine, Codex and squadrons.

OP, many players asked Fdev to stop introducing new features and concentrate on refining and improving existing ones. They have, and it looks like they've done an incredible job too.

So Beyond Chapter Four brings major improvements to core gameplay features such as mining, exploration, Codex, background sim, squadrons, lighting, scenarios and many quality of life improvements.

This is all awesome of course. However, is there enough actual, truly new content on the surface of planets and in space rather than new tools to find stuff that's been in the game for years?

We found some space crystals, tube worms and odd objects in the Lagrange Clouds. That's cool, but is that it?

Where is for example the next phase of the Thargoid surface sites? Those have been the same for many months.

Did Frontier not include such actual new content in the beta or does the beta represent everything of Beyond Chapter Four?

Frontier shouldn't underestimate how quickly people consume new content. Procedural tech could solve this issue.

It's a valid question. I’ve found loads of biological sites out near Orion and The Seagull Sector - unfortunately, they're all the same (Bark Mounds).

P.S Incredible range these Bark Mounds. ;)

I may very well be wrong but I thought the future was pretty much “Here’s 3.4, enjoy. We’re now off to solely concentrate on the ‘New Era’ of Elite,” (whatever it may be called.)

I’ve got so much still to do and discover in the game that I have no issues at all with what we currently (including the 3.4 update) have in terms of content. On that basis, and it’s admittedly a fairly selfish and personal viewpoint, I’d be very happy to be left with no further updates to the upcoming 3.4 and allow FDev to lock themselves away to reflect on the game’s progression, the positives and negatives. To investigate what technological advances since the game first arrived can be used to change any of the more wayward mechanics and to marry gameplay and lore within that.

I’m, perhaps clearly, not involved in IT professionally but it seems that they’ve possibly stuffed what they can into the framework and foundations of the original game and perhaps now feel that the future is in a complete re-engineering of the game. Keeping some of what works, losing what doesn’t, using inspiration from aspects of other games and pushing newer technologies than their initial structure was designed for.

95% hope, no doubt but I’m good with that. If I’m wrong and there are further additions before the ‘New Era’ then that’s all the better.

3.3* :)

For explorers, it is now possible to find the brain trees etc. without having to fly upside down in a mind-numbing search around the planet. So that is a big positive.

FD have suggested there is "more stuff out there to discover". I'm paraphrasing, but I assume the lightning plasma is one of them.

I do hope there is more. For exploration we have been denied the new ice planets this time round, which I was hoping for. Beyond that, not a lot. But maybe a new explorer ship?

ED is being developed too slow, yes. Whether under funding or ineptitude, we all feel this.

If all new content was revealed in the Beta and pre-launch live streams would it still be new content for players to find once it goes live?

As has been said over and over and over, there is new content not included in the beta. Noone knows what it is, how much, if it is any good or anything else. This topic is absolutely pointless.

If it's absolutely pointless then why did you bother taking a look? I for one spotted this and felt I'd like to see what feedback there was from the Beta bunch who might be able to offer insight on the actual content level at current - a concern many share since Elite hasn't exactly been blowing us away with a steady stream of updates featuring substantial and new content to immerse us in.

Q4 is make or break for some. I for one have become a little weary after all these years, despite the game still drawing me back in. Elite has a lack of direction. Even the Thargoid element has lost it's direction - if it ever had one!

Like Cosmos states here. People consume quickly. The mind grows tired equally fast in some. It's a perfectly legit thread with perfectly stimulated content to discuss.

Speak for yourself.

How long has the game been out? Take a real look at the quality of their content releases along the way. If you were there from the get go you might appreciate that it has been a very buggy journey full of frustrating shortcomings.

Everyone lavishes FD with praise when updates come out then quickly it wears off and they complain, for legit reasons on some occasions. Especially when old longstanding bugs either remain or rear their ugly heads again.

Let's hope Q4 is a new beginning and FD really start hammering home some real content updates going forward. Tested too, I might add. ;)

The answer to the OP's question cannot be given until 3.3 Final is released...which it isn't yet.

So far though, I'm impressed, even with the FSS - though the VR implementation of that needs tidying up as currently you cannot see the crucial blue blobs.

For me, the new lighting is stunning. Sitting on an ice-world watching the sun come up in VR is magical when using the camera suite.

I don't often say it but this time, well done FD. Really, well done.

This is why one must take a break and let updates stack.

I played 3.0 a lot.
I logged into 3.1 just to buy the Krait and outfit it and then left again.
Soon I shall have 3.1, 3.2 and 3.3 all ready to play for the first time.

My question is there anything interesting outside of exploring for us non explorer types? I know a few tweaks to conflict zones and you can blow up rocks in space. I have not heard much of anything else.
