Is this a nerd game?

A friend came over and saw ED on my roomates computer. He asked what it was and got "Ahhh, it's like a space game... flying around, trading, but like, the whole, real galaxy. It's a nerd game."

Is it? I never thought so but maybe being a nerd has blinded me.

I never thought of myself as playing a nerd game. But perhaps ... but as with any game of this type that is dedicated to a specific theme, I guess that qualifies as a nerd game.

Flight simulations, or combat simulations or any of this type might also be considered nerdy.

Depends on what your definition of nerd is.

If you mean 'A nerd is a person seen as overly intellectual, obsessive, or lacking social skills. Such a person may spend inordinate amounts of time on unpopular, little known, or non-mainstream activities, which are generally either highly technical, abstract, or relating to topics of fiction or fantasy, to the exclusion of more mainstream activities. Additionally, many so-called nerds are described as being shy, quirky, pedantic, and unattractive, and may have difficulty participating in, or even following, sports.' (Wikipedia), then no, it is not.

I play Elite but I am none of the above, though I will admit to being quirky.

I would say its grumpy old man game...

A nerd is only somebody who is particularly interested in one thing, it's not only about science or space or sci-fi.

You can be a sci-fi nerd as you can be a car nerd or a nerd in any other interest.

I wouldn't say ED is a nerd game but it's neither your average space shooter.

So i guess to some, let's call them restricted minds, it might look like a "nerd" game, since it involves a bit more than point-click or run-shoot.

Guess that's why some people don't make it past the first tutorials...

That sounds like nerd talk to me.

Without nerds, we wouldn't have today things like videogames, or internet, or smartphones, or computers for that matter.

We are living in the age of nerds, a nerd's world. Where practically all the nice things we enjoy are or were created by nerds.

Nerd is the new cool.
