Is this a nerd game?

According to the Oxford English Dictionary online, it has two definitions:

[FONT=noto_serif_devanagari]A foolish or contemptible person who lacks social skills or is boringly studious. ........

A single-minded expert in a particular technical field.

So, I'm inclined to believe I would fit into the latter :D

Is this a nerd game? Nah.... :p

If it was a real nerd game it would let us acquire the old school jump drives (like capital ships use) and allow me to use all those math classes I took at university to calculate actual jump coordinates to places in system other than the largest gravity well. It would be the first valid reason for that minor in mathematics combined with the large helping of astronomy classes. XD

I admit, I did take the astronomy courses as a result of Elite, it got me interested in knowing more about our galaxy :)

Yes, but most of this community would definitely fit into the first category:p

Yes...it is a nerd game

Its a nerd game alright... and you're all losers for playing stupid video games and messing about with computers

So says the guy drinking a can of beer, shouting at the TV as if the players can hear him and wearing a Chelsea* shirt in his blue and white house, and when he gets to work he talks nothing but Chelsea* and <redacted> football [zZzZz]

Bill

*replace Chelsea with any sports teams name ........ and yes, I have to work with the above guy

OP, RL friends are overrated, stop worrying about what your roommates' uncles' friends' cousin thinks about you and enjoy your time with us. Let go and become one of us, OP...

one of us. one of us. one of us...

We don't use the word "nerd" any longer.
It's like the G-word, but for people smart enough to know that words are just words. But not wanted to be left out of the Special Snowflake Pile, this word must also be struck from the common vernacular.

"Ahhh, it's like a space game... flying around, trading, but like, the whole, real galaxy. It's a nerd game."

All games are nerd games from the point of view of people who don't play them. No matter what you play you will be a nerd to someone.

Though I like the quote from the Zero Punctuation review of EVE Online that says that it is "for the nerds who are to nerds what nerds are to normal people" ;)

I like Elite, beer, TV and football(not Chelsea:)). I play video games, football and ice hockey. I like a lot of other stuff as well, that don't fall into the same category.

Life is like Elite, you don't have choose a career when you start the game. I'm allowed to be a looser in any field I want.

It's funny how in ED the roleplayed pilot probably isn't considered nerdish in its 34th century world. Pretty much space truck drivers with deadly weapons with far more firepower than a 21st century attack helicopter and like 10k more wattage than a house. And the size of the ships are as big as apartments or larger than mansions and mid size airliner jets. It's like most of the "nerds" are the NPC's on the bulletin boards or the rich tourist passengers, 'famous explorers', and scientists or the engineers, while the pilot could suddenly be tasked to participate in a deadly, explosive local system war as a quasi-mercenary or be accosted by trigger happy pirates and gangs from "The Road" or "The Road Warrior". And here we are, owner-operator space truck drivers often sleeping in the ship in some far unknown station for a pitstop rest where we don't even get to fix our ships like a mechanic with spacelegs..yet.

People often over-simplify for the sake of a quick explanation. Plus terms are relative to in-groups. You might say 'nerd' to one person and mean one thing, and say it to someone else and mean something completely different.

Well i'm 45 with teenage kids, shaven head and covered in tattoos (some are even spelt correctly)

So yeah I'm fine with the Nerd Dad title...

I hope you have 'BLAME' and 'FAULT' tattooed across your fingers... :D

A friend came over and saw ED on my roomates computer. He asked what it was and got "Ahhh, it's like a space game... flying around, trading, but like, the whole, real galaxy. It's a nerd game."

Is it? I never thought so but maybe being a nerd has blinded me.

What isnt a nerd game?

Example.
Playing actual foot ball or playing it on a computer... what is more nerdy?

anyways..

Nerd and proud. I have a very long nose for people who are not nerd.
