Is this all we can discover?

Is there any "explorable" asset adds any kind of value? What kind of things you'd like to explore out there?

Honestly, the big kick in the proverbials is what Exploration means. A lot of people would say it's "Finding new things"... which is fine, but I think FD's definition is "Finding new things, and finding new things only". What I want to see is things like deep-space (5,000-10,000LY+ from any inhabited system) mining, salvage, archaeology and xeno science.

Of course, there's only one form of "reward" here at the moment... money. And frankly, it's a proper disgrace that you can venture 10,000 LY, get a seed pod biopsy, and get paid around 10,000cr for it, when you can probably hop a couple systems and get an ELW system worth up to 10m credits. Most "explorers" balk at the idea of fitting things like cargo racks, research/recon/hatchbreaker limpet controls and the like, So.... either that biopsy sample is also worth 10m, or we introduce a situation where the activity is the fun bit, at something like not-engineer outposts.

Problem is, FD probably know full well all that stuff is broken AF, so they can't do anything with it:
Can't biopsy molluscs, even though they're valid biopsy targets.
Can you scoop anomalies?
Research Limpets rarely return with a Thargoid Tissue Sample

So what do I want to see? Going back to my "not-engineer" outposts point, let me illustrate it with engineers for a moment :p
  • Ram Tah: Why doesn't he offer missions on a mission board at their base to recover Guardian items/data scans/materials/destroy sentinels? Why isn't he a guardian material trader?
  • Palin: Why doesn't he offer (from his outpost) missions from a mission board at their base to recover Thargoid Cargo/Tissue Samples/Hearts/data scans/materials/barnacle scans/meta-alloys. Why isn't he a Thargoid material trader?
  • Why doesn't Felicity Farseer offer missions from a mission board at their base to recover biopsies from life forms/scan surface features/scan aliens/other anomalous things?
  • Why doesn't Lei Cheung offer missions from a mission board at their base to use a seismic launchers/other mining techniques against the Metallic Stars/ball/buckyball things (I forget their name) to recover rare, interesting and valuable materials?
  • Why doesn't someone like Etienne Dorn give you missions from a mission board at their base to go crack escape pods out of rumoured Generation Ship locations? The lost can't go missing after all.
  • Missions don't have to give you a specific location name, just some (reliable!) hints about a region of space to search. Heck... this can be the mechanic to populate rumours in your codex.
There's other things that could be sowed out there (Even on a temporal basis like some of the Tip-off stuff) like wrecked "black outposts" or capital ships, where a combination of Hatch Breakers/Recon limpets in a maze-like hulk, combined with some proc-gen comms logs about the fate of the ship. Conversely,,, these don't have to be engineers or tied to equipment unlocks. The ongoing rewards are the sowing of more rumours in your codex to check out...... even if those rumours only eliminate your search area down to 10,000 systems... and I can guarantee right now... if I'm sitting on a rumour that hasn't been discovered in the codex, and I have to scour 100,000 systems to find it, I'll do it, because I know something is out there, somewhere, and the mechanics exist to find it.

Alternately, lets make these outposts just engineers... and lets put some unlocks around these things which require combinations of fittings and other things.

Also, if people want to put up an argument that Exploration is just finding new things, rather than doing things with them, and I'm "missing the point", fine, whatever, I'm not trying to define what exploration means. But there's way more activities we could be doing[1] besides just "finding things", which the mechanics already exist for in the game.

tl;dr I don't want more things to find... I want objective interaction with the things we find.

[1] Just like the absence of a military career "pathway". In FE2, all it did was give you medals, permits, rank, and access to unique-themed missions, but even that sufficed.

An Earth Like World alone supposed to have millions of lifeforms on them. We have like 20-25 in the codex?

Well, that's it, isn't it? You can't land on an earthlike world. If we're ever able to, I'm sure there'll be lots to discover. But as things stand, we're landing on airless rocks, and you're not going to find a great diversity of life out there.

Also Codex is what has been discovered ingame, if u happen to find something new that isnt there it will get updated, so that figure can go up if FD add stuff for us to find that is.

It's a shame the military aspect hasn't been developed much at all. There's so much opportunity for it to offer a major part of player's lives (if they choose a military path). However, I strongly suspect that the reason it hasn't happened is because they've decided there just aren't that many people out there who care, compared to some other parts of the game. I guess it would be very RP focused, and maybe serious RP players are too few in number.

It could still be improved one day, though. You never know. I shan't be holding my breath, admittedly.

Your Discoveries are still counted and present, just not shown in the Sector Discoveries overview when you click on a Sector.
Opening a Sector to view Details will have your Data correct again. Old bug from V3.3.00, amongst the many other unfixed ones.

I was able to tag Codex 1st Discoveries in 5 Sectors on my recent trip, but at least I knew fairly well what I needed to look for, so it wasn't a ghost chase or pure reliance on luck.
Still, it's easily possible to traverse 50.000LY or more without ever encountering a single Biological or NSP.
(at least if you don't approach within 100-150LY of any Nebula.... those overexplored "Tourist spots" sadly concentrate them in spades when compared to Deep Space)

Well, I have opened many sectors I have passed through and show zero discoveries (for me), and they still show zero. For example in Odin's Hold, for me it looks as if I have never been there and the thing I did find, is not shown.

This is the only record I have that I was ever there.

I just checked my codex discoveries & it says zero for every region except the one I'm in too.

Don't log out and then log back in... you may find that those Anemones were never really there...

An idea for planetary explorations
\ fumaroles size could be increased to make them mountainous volcanos - same with the other types of geo's - (lava flows, methane rivers - planetary cracks with hot or cold bottoms)
\more diverse biologics with tendrils attaching the plant to plant or tentacle type appendages for foraging minerals or ballon collecting/expelling unwanted gases from gas vents, ( both types are in game but more advanced) -
* Quasi-science presents these possibilities in that as you get closer to the Galactic center the star systems are older -
\rock slides ( use physical aspects as in mineral collection activity - {how they bounce and float} ) for canyon or crater descents and mountain climbing -
\meteor showers ( we already chase objects to collect in gravity wells ) -
\Gas exchanges between close (100Ls ) proximity stars -
( landable planets with this range are inaccessible during transition ) -
\resize x3 and overlay rock patterns for non-avoidable hazard areas to target - ( you have to go around or figure out a pathway thru - [hidden turrents - ambush skimmers - roaming sentry SRV's])
FAN-tasy, Game just has the potential.

Had exactly the same thing. When I jumped back in game the next day it was gone, like it never happened. This was a couple of weeks ago also.
