Is your goal to be Elite?

I'm just curious. How many of you are making an effort to get to Elite in either Combat, Trade or Exploration?
My goal in reaching Elite status ingame was to get access to "Founders World". It seems thats there are all ships and items available. On top of that, you get a 10% discount on everything. Reasons enough for me to raise my combat rank. And I finally got access. My HQ is now Jameson Memorial :)

because in ironman mode EVERYONE will face the same issues, and it is unlikely a player will risk blowing up someone without a good in game reason.

but to play ironman in open right now, against people who do not care if they blow up or not is a disaster waiting to happen, it would be a bit like playing Russian roulette with a manikin doll, there can only ever be 1 loser, and it isnt the doll!

Truth is that ship has sailed for me. I could not face starting again, but mass respect for those who do.

Another thing that springs to mind is that to meet an Elite commander in Iron-man mode means that they are a survivor and probably hard to kill. To meet an Elite commander in normal mode probably means they are a grinder, if anything.

What's this "IronMan" mode you're talking about?

I already got to Elite, in exploration, by going here and seeing this.

I didn't expect either of those things to happen at that time, though, so it was quite a shock to get to that rank all of a sudden.
There's still more for me to do. So much more. Maybe I'll get to Elite and top military ranks and big ships along the way. I haven't given up exploring completely, either.

Once I start playing regularly again, that is...

Lol yeah right. Or it could mean survivor = Brave Sir Logoffski Robin

Hmmm... I don't remember having this "iron-man" flag when I created my commander. Does it have anything to do with the fact that I'm a KS backer?

It's not implemented as an in-game choice.

Some players do a self-imposed ironman mode, by clearing their saves and starting afresh after being killed.

On topic:

No, elite rank isn't a goal of mine. If it happens it happens, if not, just as well.

I'm not sure I'll ever get there - I'm currently at Expert, Entrepreneur and Trail Blazer, and my playstyle doesn't seem to be such that I could see it happening in the next year.

Combat is especially unlikely, since I believe (please correct me if I'm wrong!) that the higher ranked ships you kill give the most benefit, and those higher ranks are in the process of being buffed further yet.

It's OK; I don't need to be Elite any time soon. :) I found the naval ranks to be more interesting - I'll be excited to see what FD does to make them meaningful!

I know that this is extremely sad, but my wife bought me a T-shirt from the store at christmas and i refuse to wear it until i am elite in combat.(sad but true)

Sure, I expect to get Elite combat and Elite trade while getting a respectable Explorer rank. While the NPCs may be getting buffed, I find that I'm having no trouble killing dangerous, deadly, and elite ships in CZ with my A-grade Vulture. So, I'm currently Dangerous and Entrepreneur and steadily climbing to Deadly and (whatever comes after Entrepreneur). If you're having trouble with combat, take it as a sign that you need to improve your skill, ship, or both.
