Isla Sorna - Any Advice?!

Hey - So last night i finally went onto Island 5, Isla Sorna. After the lack of space from island 2-4, its a bit of a shock! I'm not sure how to do this park the best way to get 5* (eventually).

I noticed the default layout they give you is very open and the facilities are in fact surrounded by gates and they talk about how open world the island once was, a lot. Is this a hint? Best way for this island? Have small enclosed facilities areas to keep guest happy and let dinos run free? Or should I completely restart it - have dinos enclosed as I do with all other parks.

Whats everyone else done? Very curious!

I got rid of the beginning area completely, wanted to free up the space and make things my way.
So I had a long path from entrance, with enclosures on the sides.
Made like two enclosures at beginning area, one for Spino, one of all the Stego herd.
Then this would split into two paths, one going each sides of the mountain.
Couple of paddocks on left side mountain, couple of right side of mountain.
Then the top left side and top right side connected with another long path.
Three ranger stations and three acu centres.
Also had monorail for faster transport.
It's essential you know what is needed at each viewing platforms so you can free up spaces easily.
Just 5* guest facilities, like bar (5* drink), restaurant (5* food), arcade (5* fun) and clothing shop (5* shopping).
When you create enclosures, have a 4 fences x 2 fences size because this seems best for one viewing platform to oversee nearly whole paddock.

I've literally decided to place my guests (rather than my Dinosaurs) in an enclosure here. That little outpost you've got as you start the map; I've made four of them;

Outpost #1:
  • ACU
  • Storm Protection
  • Bunker
  • Power Plant (L) - I replaced the medium one
  • Monorail
  • Exhibition Centre
  • Fossil Centre
Outpost #2:
  • Ranger Station
  • Power Plant (L)
  • Hotel
  • Monorail
  • Shops (x2)
  • Bunker
  • Storm Protection
Outpost #3:
  • Power Plant (L)
  • Hatchery (x3)
  • Storm Protection
  • Monorail
  • Research Centre
Outpost #4:
  • Ranger Station
  • Power Plant (L)
  • Shops (x2)
  • Hotel
  • Monorail

I have three Carnivore enclosures (with viewing platforms) attached to Outposts 2 (Spino & Dilophosaur), 3 (Carno) & 4 (Rex & Raptors), and then I just allow all my herbivores to roam around he map. I've built walls around my outposts with two gates each (for ranger repair).

Are you really gonna, or did you get 5* stars island with that setup?
I don't know if you'd be able to see all those herbivores that are roaming the Map.
I mean, visitors being in enclosures but bigger space for dinos right?
Viewing platforms may not be enough to cover the space, and may not get near 100% dino visibility.
Sorry, but this is also hard to picture.

I'm playing to enjoy at the moment - I haven't completed Sorna yet, nor am I in any rush to do so. I can mix things up a bit later; place more viewing platforms, girospheres etc.

I only did 3 areas,,

Entrance: http://xboxdvr.com/gamer/uselessuk/screenshot/9302935 (Area 1)

Left from Entrance: http://xboxdvr.com/gamer/uselessuk/screenshot/9302936 (Area 2)

Up from Entrance: http://xboxdvr.com/gamer/uselessuk/screenshot/9302937 (Area 3)

Area 1
  • Diplodocus x4
  • Ceratosaurus x3

Area 2
  • Strutiosminus x6
  • Chunkingosaurus x3
  • Hauyangosaurus x3
  • Tricerotops x3

Area 3
  • Camarasaurus x6

All the dinosaurs were modified.

I was just short of what I needed for the 5 stars, but creating an Indominus Rex and releasing it solved the issue. It was then sold before it killed anything.

Could/Should have just thrown in some Raptors with them; that'll save on the escapes. ;)

The problem was the iRex was released in to the paddock with the Ceratosaurus/Diplodocus so releasing Raptors would not have stopped a blood bath. I only have 3 paddocks and only one of them has carnivores. When I have released raptors with the ceratosaurus they get tolerated for a while until the ceratosaurus want to have fun and hunt them down.

Indeed; it does seem as though it's only the large Carnivores (Rex's) that can tolerate smaller carnivores (Raptors & Dildos), whilst the mid-sized Carnivores can (usually) tolerate one or two of each other, but not anything larger or smaller. Two or three Carno's together can live in harmony, but they'll hunt down anything smaller, whereas they're hunted themselves in you put anything large with them.

It's a nice touch, to think that the bigger they are, the more isolated they need to be. You can't have more than a single Rex in an enclosure, you need more than a single Carno/Allo but generally more than four will become problematic, and you need more than a single Raptor or two (typically three to five I've found).

[woah] [woah] [woah] [woah] OMG!
This is the best idea ever! I have like 2 weeks trying to play on Sorna, keeping dinos running free, and my principal issue was to avoid enclosures!!
Let's give it a try!

I watched some YouTube guys, they advised selling the spino straight away and try and enclose the Stegs nearest your base. I did that but whilst the stegs were further away I demolished the whole base and started from scratch, and built what i needed as tight as possible into the rail head. Including mono rail. I didn't link any of the areas with paths, just rail links between the three areas.

Watch "best in slot" videos on YouTube. They help with knowing what to build and where.

He advises build just restraunts, clothing store and arcades around your hotels and viewing areas. These max out your 5* park rating, leaving you to sort the dino rating which is easy.

So I built and linked with power and monorail three park areas. The areas were all similar to what i had been building in the last islands. Enclosed, well viewed and secure. You have the room for 3 enclosures in each area. I then Concentrated on the missions. Tonight I just finished unlocking all dinos and upgrades and I'm off to the sandbox.

I also went with the strategy of creating several little viewing islands throughout the park that are connected by monorail. I have my monorail track snake back and forth as much as possible to maximize the viewing time of the various Dino's.

Each island has a few platorms, storm shelter, substation, and one restaurant, cafe, store, or whatever else. The majory of the park is "open" like this and stocked with herbivores. I have the area at the arrival point filled with the hotel, operational facilities, and a walled off area for carnivores.

With large open areas, be mindful of the species that need to be around others of the same species, because they will panic when they wander off from one another, regardless of how many there are in the enclosed area.

I had 10 to 15 stegos before I got tired of fixing walls and ting down the park before I just tranquized and sold them all.

Same with the big sauropods. If a Brachiosaurus wanders away from a forested area, it can go into panic pretty quick and blow through the walls and it can take the ranger teams a good while to make it out to fix it since they have to drive so far.

Actually what I did was a reverse Jurassic World, Open Jurassic park like in the movie, instead of building small paddocks surrounded by human accesses, I built human accesses as paths and created LARGE paddocks all the way to the build area wall and let the dinos have the run of the park.

The way you do this is build as if the Humans are the Zoo and the dinos are the park visitors, with the fences up against every path, and around the facility buildings, and it works out really well.

I started by catching the Spino and creating a paddock for her at the below right, then did the same collecting a few of the Stegos while the Spino was already making money. After that, I worked on the guests part, adding guest buildings around the entrance and a small paddock with some Pachys. To the left, I created the fossil building etc., as well as more power stations, created the rail all over the place while I had still space. And then, I added several more paddocks all over and stuffed it with dinos.

It takes a while until you get 5*, but as long as you make sure you got Rangers and Helicopters, take care of your dinos and dart the Spino once a storm hits, you should be fine.
