Isn't it about time FD stopped selling a non Horizons based Elite and merge the content?

Kind of agree with the OP. I joined the wonderful wacky world of ED at Xmas just gone, paying the princely sum of £5 for the base game. Almost immediately I found half the missions on the BBS couldn't be accomplished as they required planetside landings...only possible in Horizons. Of course the game didn't actually point this out in a clear fashion, just a cryptic FFE style bug message that it couldn't render the graphics. Extra £10 sorted the issue but it did occur to me if the base game has Horizons as a dependency it would surely make more sense to bundle it all together. Most other AAA games by the time they get to the age of ED are on sale as a GOTY or similar version which includes all the add-ons/DLC to date.

1. You are wrong, they have always updated the base game, for free.
2. You find it strange that people buy the base game and don't have free access to all expansions. I find it strange that you assume they would develop all expansions without charging for it.
3. What happens to the people who only own the base game, do they get everything for free while others had to pay for it? Wouldn't that be unfair? How do you expect Frontier to pay their developers?

Sorry, your idea doesn't sound very compelling to me.

Where did I say they should develop all expansions for free? For current base game owners of course the expansion should remain on sale for seperate purchase, but I speak of new adopters buying a version of Elite that is sold with Horizons included by default, at a reasonably higher price than the base only game we're seeing today. So there's nothing being said here about the DLC being FREE. This would bring most people up to parity with one another from the get go.

By doing this they spare the new comers any confusion when they purchase what stores display as the FULL game and remove any possibility of said new comers being left with any fowl taste in their mouth when met with the demand to spend even more money after believing themselves to have purchased the full experience. Just remove the base game as it stands from sale and sell Elite now for a reasonably higher price with Horizons included by default. Why is that not positive for the game in the long term?

I'll bet some new comers have purchased the base game, noticed they can't enjoy the content they see advertised and gotten bored long before it clicks with them how good the game really can be.

Again, I don't know where some of you are saying I'm calling for this to be FREE.

Personally I paid for Horizons on release but it wouldn't bother me at all to see it merged as per OP.

TBH I think it would be good, let's do it. Upgrade non-Horizon accounts and let's get everyone on the same playing field.

I now have four Horizons accounts for the game (one for every platform Plus a lifetime and and alt PC).

How ED charges for the game is their business. People who just buy the base game can play how they want but are missing out for sure.

Simple answer. No.

My brother got a hand-me-down Alien gaming laptop for christmas. Many years old, but it works and was free. Guess what, he bought and can play Elite Dangerous, but it simply isn't capable of running Horizons.

I'd be ok with that, but I don't really care.

To me access to planets is essential, because it makes planets feel real and not just like props. Planetary landings add a new dimension.
I think most people who like spacesims will feel like that

Since they just released the game on PS4, they need to milk Horizons a bit longer. I'm guessing that when they add the next big expansion, they'll probably just make Horizons the base game, but whatever, I already own it, so a year of free content is ok by me.

I'm unsure if this is something that will be considered or not, but seeing as Elite pits all players into the same Universe I find it increasingly surprising that the company advertise the new content for Elite on live streams, Thargoids, new tech etc (naturally confined to Horizons mostly) without considering that some players may have bought the base game thinking it to be the FULL game, only to then have to buy Horizons separately, which has all of the latest, and in my opinion, mandatory content updates locked behind it? It makes no sense that the old base game continues to be sold without any of the content updates that have made Elite a better game, therefore I feel it probably harms the impression given by the new players who might not enjoy it enough to invest in Horizons afterwards. The base game is devoid of content without planetary landings. It is just space and space stations, zero engineering and far less immersion since said players cannot enjoy any of the story based content that involves Horizons content.
It's bad enough that base gamers are put in the same universe as players who have heavily engineered ships with specialised weaponary that the base gamer simply has no means to counter.
Sell the base game on stores with Horizons from now on and do the game a favour, noting my previous point... 

So if FDev merges Elite Dangerous with Horizons and doubles the price to $59.99, that is what you want? It already exists and it is called the "CMDR Deluxe Edition". They even throw in a few ship skins. o7

I'm aware of that and the deluxe is what I purchased for my PS4. In saying that I never suggested they charge double the price. Find a happy medium and settle on one package with regards to the main game now that Horizons has come far and practically all of the new content that is required if you wish to survive in open and cope versus other players more efficiently is locked behind of it.

I've made a simple point regarding the basic game which displays as Full Game on the store, which is what I consider misleading for quick buyers.

But no big deal. I own the game on everything bar the Mac and don't need to be trying to suggest how to avoid confusion with new comers. I'm doing it for the games sake and for others. Nothing in it for me, yet some of you guys think this is an awful suggestion... 🙄
