Issue Tracker: Planetary Tiling

Also, recall the complaints about how the base game never got the Beluga, Alliance ships etc? That's because they all came to Horizons, I had thought they were for the base game at the time till I was directed to the wiki, they were only released for Horizons as that was the next iteration of Elite Dangerous, once I had Horizons I never launched the base game barring a very few occasions that I needed to spawn in orbit, but anyway, it's already happening with the Scorpion SRV in Odyssey,
Sorry to derail but i am curious about this.

Does anyone know what happens if you had the Beluga for instance and then you logged into the base game back in the day?

or what happens now if i were to log off on a planet surface in my Scorpion and then logged back into horizons?

it is these sort of issues i imagine FD will be glad to get shot of when EDO tech is merged into horizons (then it will just be account locked stuff)........... Personally i do not mind what FD choose to do BUT i do wish there was a way i could play with my mates who currently feel ED:O isnt worth it without me having to install 2 copies of the game!.

IIRC you still had your Beluga you just couldn’t buy another one, you might not have been able to swap into it from another ship. But the ship was still usable within the limits of the base game.

Space Engine is another example of an ongoing project that iterates over time, btw; has Space Engine got fluid water yet? Keep meaning to check back in on that one.

It certainly does. I've been spending a lot of time in space engine lately... very relaxing. Vladimir Romanyuk has done an amazing job. I have so much respect for his work. Here's some screenshots I've taken recently of rivers and oceans, not necessarily water mind you. In fact perhaps only one is water? I know some are CO2, SO2.

Don't expect to find these easily though. They're very rare. But these are great examples of procgen done well. Low level planet terrain still needs the fine detail, and I hope he continues to improve it. Space is still where this software does it better than anyone.

Looks good, might have to load that up again.

Edit; my bad, I've done this before, but I'm confusing Space Engine with Space Engineers again. Space Engineers is the one I was asking about in regards to water.. I actually don't have Space Engine, thought about it though.

Does it not rather defeat the point of having a voting system if FDev can just ignore it?

You should be ashamed of yourselves.

Nope. They always said the issues people voted for were not the only ones they were going to fix, and similarly just because people voted for something doesn't mean they were going to fix it. The voting just gave them an idea of how important some issues were to players.

lol.

Personally I think that the tissue racker is a show of smoke and mirrors..

I really don't think that the bugs just disappear into thin air, rather they probably are migrated into an internal bug tracker and still available to the devs. FDev would have to be crazy to just let all that useful data just disappear. I'd agree that it's probably an attempt to find out what bugs are the most important to the users at any given moment.

If you guys had never said anything about the tiling I probably never would have noticed it. I will let them keep their tiling if they get to work on VR.

Tbh the whole odyssey tile placement tech does seem to be a huge step backwards from horizons, the StarCraft 1 prefab system does not fit peoperly with a game of this magnitude. I would love to see a return to pre odyssey days but i do think that fdev is gonna run with this one which is a shame tbh.

No. If anything it would be the end for any game if the generally clueless consumer could dictate development. You get to indicate what you think is important, and then the studio determines what is feasible.
You should be ashamed of yourselves.
Noted.

Agreed, I think it had 3 times as many votes as whatever bug was in 2nd place.

You should be ashamed of yourselves.
Planetary tiling should have been caught and dealt with a year before release, but fixing a problem that they say would take significant time to fix that also some people say they don't even notice is probably the right call.

But everything from the release of Odyssey on 19/05/21 up until now taken as a whole? Absolutely agree.

Well they have tested mine to the limit.. I am still playing because there is still some VR. If VR leaves completely I will be going with it.
I am not sure if "three years later I am still playing, and I will continue to play, but one day I might stop!" is really a damning statement.
