It`s MY Carrier so why should i

Have to ask permission to dock on it ? Why don`t i have my own designated bay ?
Why should i have to pay to re-arm and refuel ?
Why can`t i stand on the bridge and watch the jump into hyperspace, who`s this who keeps escorting me to my designated seat ?
Why can`t i sit in MY seat whenever i want ?
Why`s the bloody barman not serving me any alcohol ? I want my single malt damnit !!

Requesting docking permission - why not? The carrier needs to get ready for any ship to land, yours included. I do wish there were different lines for the carrier owner though, so docking at your own wasn't the same as docking at anyone's.

I presume there's some very good reason why standing during a hyperspace jump is a bad idea (although the reason is probably something daft like the carrier jump animation doesn't work out of the bar window).

Agree with being able to order a drink, but this is FDEV. "There's no gameplay in that."

More along the lines of being left floating in space upto 500 LY behind your carrier.
Your Cmdr needs to become part of the carrier to guarantee moving with it.

Oh yes it is mine. i paid for it, i paid to equip it, i pay the crew , i pay fori it`s upkeep , i don`t pay a rental charge.
Ehhh, it's more like you pay a deposit of 5 billion + whatever additional services and then a weekly upkeep (rental & crew wages) until you run out of funds then Brewer repossesses the FC, deducts 150,000,000 cr as administrative costs and returns the balance to you.

Oh yes it is mine.
Nope, because
i paid for it,
You paid a 5bn security deposit, which you get back in-part when you close the contract out.
i paid to equip it,
You paid for additional extras on your rental service
i pay the crew , i pay fori it`s upkeep , i don`t pay a rental charge.
That's exactly what a rental charge covers, maintenance and crew service (like a serviced apartment). You foot all the operating costs as well (e.g tritium).

Just let the Thargoids overrun the Bubble. No more corporate executives to complain you didn’t hand back their property.

Although there won’t be much of a place to use that thing well, then, unless you hike it to Colonia.

Permission to dock: rarely a problem but you still need to check a pad is free. They won't deny it for any other reason.
Rearm-refuel: still gotta pay for it one way or another. It could make sense to have a slight discount, wholesale price since you wouldn't aim to profit from selling to yourself, though, but that's a minor thing. As it is, I guess public stations already offer their services at-cost?
Standing on the bridge: Frontier decided implementing that would be more trouble than it was worth, they'd have to make the jump animation work from more than one point of view.
Sitting in the seat: Frontier didn't implement it.
Barman not serving drinks: Frontier didn't implement it.

Most of these can be answered without the idea that a FC is a rental. I don't recall any lore or ingame info that says it is - that idea just seems to have arisen as a headcanon for why FC treat the owner much the same as anyone else. Usually with regard to the ATC. Frontier just didn't implement extra voice lines for the owner. I also doubt that, if it were a rental, Brewer Corp would outlaw referring to the renter differently or letting them sit down.

You pay upkeep on your ship when you need to as well, and lose it if you can't. Doesn't mean you're renting it. I guess the upkeep for FCs occuring at fixed weekly intervals makes it feel more like paying rent. But unless there's some line in the Pilots Handbook that is going to completely destroy me by implying otherwise, it's not.

Well, I often compare it to my house. With that I also:
  • have to use my keys or remote opener to get into it,
  • don't always get the same parking spot (family of 5), sometimes also depending on vehicle size (van/small car/bike),
  • have to pay for ALL of the fuel, especially directly at the pump,
  • get escorted to my seat if I stand too much "on the bridge and watch hyperspace" (aka intoxicated until I see stars),
  • can't sit in my seat whenever I want (just ask wife/kids/cats, they'll explain it to you).
But granted, I can get my scotch or what-have-you, but unfortunately no bloody barman to serve it to me.

So in this light, all they have to do is to implement that barman serving drinks and I'd call it a day.

  • Because fleet carriers are just stations in every functional way
  • Because fleet carriers are just stations in every functional way
  • Likely because the game's jump sequence requires it to work (I'm almost certain the entire sequence is coded very differently to normal game play, just like hyperspace jumps are in your ship)
  • You can? Except for the above.
  • Because bars aren't for serving alcohol

I answered your direct questions directly. Obviously, you've got some hidden demands underneath so I'll try to cover those now:

  • I think it would be nice if carriers you own recognised you and allowed you some form of special rights, as the owner. But, I guess FD didn't prioritise that as important enough to implement
  • It's a credit sink. We don't need credit sinks being removed so this is fine as it is.
  • Is this important? Really? I'd maybe like to be able to sit in the office but the game imposes the control chair as you are the leader and it's not a big deal. You get to be captain and state "engage". It's alright. It's not a big deal.
  • This seems to be the same request as above duplicated
  • It would be nice to implement drinking at bars from a social/roleplay point of view. My guess is they just didn't bother for ratings reasons. But I can't know that for sure. If they did add it, they'd probably also need to add a drunk state and maybe even then start adding penalties for flying whilst drunk and... Knowing this community, it's a slippery imershun slope from there on. But, if they just allowed you to neck a couple drinks without all that nonsense then sure, why not? It would be another credit sink and would be a nice to have. But it's not really important that we don't have it.

FWIW, the codex refers to carrier purchases and owners, not to leases and leaseholders.

Yeh, the "you rent it" argument is a lazy one and not based on any actual evidence.
Agreed. It's just a lazy argument for a lazy implementation. At least it fits the theme :)

The truth of the matter is, FDev could have done better, but they didn't. Par for the course.....
