It`s MY Carrier so why should i

Because traffic control is real. Crew need to be alerted that you're arriving and which pad to prepare. They're not standing around, looking out windows, waiting for master to come home. They're employees with jobs to do. Even that guy sleeping on the bench, he's overworked already and on break.

And I'm not sure why you'd want a designated pad. I'd hate to have to run the length of a large pad when I'm in a small ship.

Because that stuff doesn't magically appear out of thin air. You have to pay for it as the owner! The weekly costs are for employees and overhead, not supplies.

Safety officers, you insane maniac. They don't want to have to clean your guts off the wall AGAIN.

You can. But I agree, the game should just kill you if you refuse to do so. And then keep the blood stain decals from the last time you wanted to show how much of an individual you were. Or maybe it takes the Fleet Carrier away, because that CMDR is now dead, and you're playing a clone.

There's no drinking mechanics. Wait until the next DLC, Elite Dangerous: Valhalla.
to the point you dont beat around the bush, haha loved youre post 07 cmdr youre welcome on my fc anytime.

Have to ask permission to dock on it ? Why don`t i have my own designated bay ?
Why should i have to pay to re-arm and refuel ?
Why can`t i stand on the bridge and watch the jump into hyperspace, who`s this who keeps escorting me to my designated seat ?
Why can`t i sit in MY seat whenever i want ?
Why`s the bloody barman not serving me any alcohol ? I want my single malt damnit !!
Pretty much all of your queries can be explained by the same two words: engineering issues. Adding exceptions to formal rules is both difficult and inadvisable.

As others have said, you're only renting the carrier.

That being said, I should be treated with more respect by the carrier and crew that I've leased than some other carrier/station/outpost. For example, the Flight controller should say "Welcome home, Commander" or "Welcome to your Carrier, commander" instead of "Welcome to our carrier" or the even more neutral "be on your best behavior, Mr. Nobody" lines that it sometimes throws at me.

And for clarity, I'm not using the default robotic ATC. I've got the human ones (Donovan and Blaine, I think) and they both do this.

It's kind of insulting. It's like if it was required for you to buzz your landlord everytime you wanted to enter your apartment and he made you thank him for the opportunity. I have no problems with being required to go through standard pad requests. I do have a problem with the way the carrier ATC treats me.

Yep, I think a lot of people have been saying this for quite some time (I know I have :D ). And there are certain celebs out there who make for great FC ATC voiceovers.

A bit OT but but there's also the tritium to depot "issue" *

* As well as - in my opinion only I think - tritium 'roids should yield far, far more than they currently do which would make deep space exploration in a carrier that bit more viable and less... yeah... grindy... than having to mine it to fuel your carrier. **

** And yes this would affect the market.

One thing I should admit here is that I was surprised by neutral invitation from docking mistress. I would expect something more personalized. I don't demand calling me by my commander's name. "Hello boss" would be quite enough.

Oh no, no.

"Your most gracious and wondrous Highness, Lord Master[Mistress] and commander of All, Thee whom we worship adoringly beist us who are but worms in Thine exalted deitificiouness splendour" would just about be OK-ish.

Too much?

:D

I wonder who would be a good voice actor for that? Andy Sirkis as Golem springs to mind.

slightly too much but also acceptable.

Bloomin' Imps...

As galactic vermin, the only welcome I often expect is being at the wrong end of the FC gunner's sights... (both me & my FC crew being vermin equally, naturally!)

Feels like if you're paying that much to rent it, and are part of a cadre that are the only reason said rental market exists, then you should receive some kind of differentiated treatment for sure. It's immersion breaking not to. They can be as annoying and obsequious as they like, I don't have to be made to feel warm and fuzzy, but I should be treated differently.

You're not renting it, that's been convered in this thread. All the in-game stuff says you buy it. Quite probably a second-hand one since you can sell them back.

It's probably more like a mortgage. Mortgage owners do "own" their houses, but if they don't keep up the payments (in this case "upkeep") then the mortgage-lender (in this case Brewer Logistics or whatever they're called) will reclaim the carrier and decommission it on behalf of your creditors in order to pay them back. Or perhaps the Pilot's Federation do it, since only CMDRs (PF members) can own FCs.

Except for the bit where you never stop paying for it ;) (Also... are we suggesting that 5bn would just be a deposit, and FCs are actually more like 50bn credits? oof...)

this is the reason. fdev has a gameplay plan for carriers and doesn't want to add anything to it they can't just reuse from regular stations.

they do not care about things making lore sense. you pay upkeep to keep you engaged with repeating game loops... not because you are renting or paying maintenance. you request permission and pay for stuff like a normal user at a normal station because you are... because fdev just copied the same routines from normal stations to use with the carrier.

you have to sit down when jumping because the game cant support activity during the jump that a player may do. because it aligns to the way things behave in a normal ship jump, with the players restricted.

some of these things are out of laziness / lack of developer resources, some due to technical limitations from design choices too late to change now. none of them are due to wanting to comply to some lore or make logical sense.

Why does my own carrier open fire on me when I give it a shot?
