It would appear that the console release will be delayed beyond Autumn 2021

Here's my prediction. EDO is NOT releasing on PS4 and Xbox One at all.

Book it.

If it releases on PS5 and X/S.. it won't be this year. Might not even be next year.
It wont be this year for sure, ive seen EDO and it will take 6m for it to be fixed, i appreciate all the testing PC players are doing right now.

I still don’t buy the whole “PC players are testing for console players” nonsense. PC players are testing for PC player … it doesn’t even work consistently on this better hardware, never mind porting it to the 9 year old PC tech running in a PS4.

Console Odyssey will never arrive in my opinion. Frontier has abandoned the Xbox One and PS4 versions and they focus on PC entirely from now on. I don't have trust in this "we will put consoles back on the roadmap some day" claim. It just will not happen. Firstly, it's clear that Odyssey will never be in a state where old hardware like the Xbox One and PS4 could run it properly. Even though Frontier has claimed before that system requirements would not change significantly, it's clear that Odyssey does need much more powerful PCs to run with even remotely acceptable framerates. After making it work like this, it is simply impossible to optimise it enough so that the old consoles could run it. Despite Frontier's always ambiguous communication I think we can be blunt about this. Xbox One and PS4 will never be able to run Odyssey in an acceptable manner.

Secondly, Frontier has claimed several times clearly that they have absolutely no plans to create a dedicated new-gen version of Elite, so they will not optimise the game to use the hardware of PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. This I can fully believe, as they now have no plans to support any console anymore. With no plans for current hardware and technically unable to bring it to old hardware, the only logical conclusion is that Elite Dangerous has been abandoned on consoles for good.

I expect this announcement sometime early next year. In my opinion, anyone who still believes or hopes for a console release date for Odyssey any time next year or beyond simply doesn't know Frontier well enough. They have put consoles aside, cut them down like dead weight in order to try and save Elite Dangerous on PC, their traditional platform and biggest playerbase. It is understandable, given the grave situation Elite is in right now, and from this point of view it's "the right decision" - although I would rather call it a desperate one. In the end, as a console player, I don't feel that my support, time, money and love for Elite matters to the developers anymore. This wonderful game is now left to die on consoles, and it's one of the saddest things I've seen in gaming for many years.

I agree - I think it’s only a matter of time before the announcement that console versions are being “sunset” just like the Mac version was.

Said much the same earlier on either this thread or another … and been fearing as much for a while.

It’s a shame … when you look at what other studios are achieving on the old consoles - never mind the current ones - ‘cause Elite could be incredible on those platforms … I just don’t think FDev have anyone left who knows how to do it.

I was expecting this.
It will probably be bugged to hell when it's released on console and we'll have to wait months for fixes.

I don't have much else to say ,it's been one thing or another since GPP.

No release date forthcoming anytime soon.

who we kidding, its cancelled, they're just scared to announce they're no longer supporting it.

This. People have to realize that console development is not "delayed". It's cancelled, stopped, put on hold, and as things stand with the PC version, will most probably never be resumed. I have doubts about how far console development has progressed so far in the first place. Knowing Frontier and the relation between their announcements and real activity, we can be certain that consoles are abandoned completely now. It's over.

It's funny, as this whole situation was going on, I had this feeling many times but you've just confirmed the inevitable.

I played this game on Xbox one hoping to see it become my dream space game only to realise FDev had simply been dangling a carrot on the end of the stick for console players hoping for a better future. And especially considering how Mac support was cut, this feels like the end of the road for my journey of elite. The real kicker is how they keep us waiting and hoping only to drop the ball after all the wasted time in anticipation. I would rather know now not to hold my breath hoping but I've simply had enough of it.

And even though I want to build a gaming pc, elite would be way down my list of things to play and I'm more inclined to jump on star citizen at that point.

So it's been a long painful ride but I've just gotta call it quits now. I really shouldn't have wasted my time waiting for this game.

I'm enjoying what we have, I've spent more time in this game than I care to admit so I can't say I haven't had my moneys worth, and will probably play it for a few more years if Odyssey never comes to Xbox.

Is it too early to be asking when Elite Dangerous 2 will be out?

So, NMS, any good?! Asking for a friend 😉
It is actually. The flight model is very arcade like but it has base building, fleet carriers, very detailed, planets and all kinds of life to find. Plus the fleet carriers have interiors, you can buy frigates for the fleet carriers and send them on missions and each one has it's own interior that you occasionally have to go do maintenance on them if they get damaged. Plus theres at least 6 or 7 ground vehicles including a motorcycle, a submarine, and a titanfall esq mech. The star ships are procedurally generated.... and Hello games actually give the impression they care about their fan base.

Some resources are only found on certain types of planets. There is alot of information out there on how to find things and some items can only be obtained by crafting or refining.

I'm sure I read somewhere that the console development team for ED had been disbanded? But yeah, this looks like Endgame for consoles now. I'm oddly fine with it, I've played for many years and got much enjoyment out of the game, starting on my Xbox One, to my Xbox One X, and on my Xbox Series X.

I see nothing in Odyssey which makes me eager to play it, nor have I played Horizons for months now. Sadly, the magic is gone, and despite my earlier optimism expressed in another thread, realistically, nothing FDEV have done since Beyond gives me hope they can turn this mess around, or that they are capable of understanding their own player-base.

I'm been happy for months now to give money to other developers, ones who support consoles, cross-play, next-gen hardware etc. Not one penny more for FDEV. I'm sure NMS is still on Xbox Game Pass, BTW, and soon, MFS will be joining it.

I would wait a few month to see how much they can improve PC version.
If CD Project managed to get Cyberpunk 2077 back to playstation store, surely ... oh wait:
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Users continue to experience performance issues with this game. Purchase for use on PS4 systems is not recommended. For the best Cyberpunk experience on PlayStation, play on PS4 Pro and PS5 systems.

Maybe they will take same direction as CD project did here, instead of totally canceling it.

The game is clearly in a pretty bad place on PC. I was watching CMDR Plater earlier and he was getting sometimes sub 15fps in ground CZs on a really pretty good PC, that is worse than pretty much every console game I have played in the last PS4 generation. (I am sure there are some terrible games there but, not that I've played, I think even CP2077 on PS4 runs at more than 15fps, especially now after many patches).

If it can be fixed on PC, and then ported over to consoles that's ultimately go to be better for console players in the long run.

I obviously have no idea if console players will be thrown under the bus later....
reaching out from underneath the bottom carriage of the bus... "Too Late!!"
