Its not RPG but an MMO. Yes?

Obviously theres no leveling up in this game. But is it possible to see 100 players or say 50 docking at the same time in a station? After all, the game is restricted to only 55 accessible systems at this time with each system having only one station. It shouldnt be hard to come across such instance. Even few systems have no station.

It's not an MMO as such. It's a multiplayer game, and currently only 30ish real people can be in the same instance at a time.

Look, it's a bit futile trying to cram Elite into some predefined genre. It doesn't really fit. It's a light space simulator with strong multiplayer elements.

You are never going to see hundreds of players at the same time, because the game is peer-peer instances capped at 32 players. Elite will never feel over-populated, instead it's usually going to be a bit sparse and lonely. Thats the intended feeling.

The reason Elite has hooked me so strongly is because it doesn't fit into a predefined genre. It's certainly not entirely original, but it has retained it's own spirit enough that it doesn't deserve to be labeled as an RPG or an MMO.

Oh i didnt know that. But only 30? Thats a bit small isnt it? I assume there can be more than 30 players in a station but all of them are divided into rooms of 30 players each. That made so you wouldnt see all 100 or 200 people docking at the same time maybe

Add in a number of AI pilots, it gets busy.

As they optimise the code they may be able to support more.

So essentially the lobby gets filled up with NPCs if the player count is low and get replaced when players log in and visit the station. Alright cool.

It seems to be set at about 16 at the moment, not 32. It can be set anywhere it just falls apart more as you get higher and gameplay suffers.

I see ED more like dark souls 2 in space. Where you are really playing a single player game with the off chance of being invaded (if you so wish), and with really punishing results if your not on the ball.

I don't think instances are limited to 32 ships, be they NPC or PC. Its just limited to 32 PC in an instance. Yes a station can have multiple instances each with 32 max players.

I am not sure if its positive that in game is currently capped at 32, or that is FD end goal.

Yea its still in beta so im pretty sure stress testing servers is part of what theyre doing right now. Either way im satisfied with how the game is going so far. My $75 was worth it :)

Pretty much. Everyone is playing in the same game world. It's just that we can't see and be connected to everyone at the same time. Mostly because current day bandwidth limits can't do a "twitch" based game like this with the same number of players that can be seen in normal MMOs, but there is also other considerations. One is how docking works. Imagine having to wait in line to get into a popular station around Earth with thousands of other players in front of you. ;)

Another thing to keep in mind is that the limit only applied to players...there can be lots more NPCs flying around.

Haha I know right?? I keep picturing that in my head having to wait minutes if not hours just to get docking permissions lol. It'll be realistic in a sense but disastrous for servers and cpus nonetheless

NVM you would have to set up a flight plan. You would have to inform every station when you were going to show up, just so that you could even get into line.

I absolutely concur with this sentiment.

Besides, if a station had more ships docked or are waiting to dock, it's always a good time to check on ship functions, see what other stations and systems to go to, etc. Although I've never had to wait yet.
