I’ve just discovered the Docking Computer, and...

What's that about "docking computer always sticks to speed limit"? 🤔 Mine - and I have them on every ship - certainly don't. It boosts and rockets through the mailslot at top speed, as long as there isn't a queue.

If I'm actually in a hurry, yeah, then I might rush through the slot manually (esp past queues), and then engage the ADC as soon as I'm through.
But way more often I use the time after dropping out of SC otherwise. I might plan my next trip, or look something up, or leave the room entirely, for instance when one of the cats wants something. All things I can't do while "saving time" landing the ship manually.

Man, I do not know what is going on with you guys who have your docking computers doing all sorts of weird stuff. Like I said earlier, it's never been an issue for me. My docking computer has NEVER deviated from proper activity. Now, I must admit, this may have something to do with the fact that I make sure to approach the station, while in supercruise, facing the mail slot. However, I've never had my docking computer ram me through the mail slot at top speed or even scrape the sides of the mail slot. I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that my ship is a Type 10. I have noticed and others have told me this, that when my ship does go through the mail slot, it angles a bit because my Type 10 is apparently WIDER than the damn mail slot. This would mean that the Type 10 is officially the largest ship that could ever be able to fit though the slot. If the Panther Clipper is ever introduced, it will likely have to be an "outside only" ship. Would never be able to actually fit into the slot.

Well I beg to differ. You know there are people in flight sim communities whose idea of playing is to disregard ATC and throttle to max...and those who follow real world style regulations to point.
This isn't the real world, though. This isn't even really a sim. It's a video game. You can run around and murder hobo to your heart's content with no consequences whatsoever.

I always install a docking computer - always .Never had a problem with one . Whats more in any Sci Fi Universe I ever invented - there is no way in hell I would allow private vessels the ability to dock manually at a major public hub like a station if only for traffic control / safety purposes .

I agree with this, if we tried to project how this would work realistically, I can't imagine you'd be able to self land in a heavily populated area. I mean in another 20 years we won't even be driving our cars.
