I’ve just discovered the Docking Computer, and...

Wow! Just wow!

Ok, so I’m not much of a trader, but I’ve finally got myself a Cutter and I’m hauling 728 tons of goodies from A to B.
Something different to do, 10M profit, single jump, so it’s all good.

I’ve been flying since 2014 and never even considered a docking computer before (I mean, why would I?’), but this thing is a barge. So, I thought, why not?

And, my god, it’s great. I LOVE it. It saves so much time docking (and launching - I have the advanced version). I love how it lowers and raises your landing gear, and even manages your pips so you get 4 to shields as you land.

Don’t get me wrong, I won’t be getting one for my FDL (or in fact any other ship), but for my Trader Cutter, it’s terrific.

Plus, some Blue Danube, in a nod to my 1984 childhood self. Lovely!

What’s not to like?!

Smile - Yeah. I'm a fan of the DC and Flight assist. Especially when trading in the FC. Makes filling it and emptying it a doddle for 500mil per cycle.
Works for me!

Edit: btw, the DC still has some issues with the larger ships. It scraps the T9 on the way in through the slot (but not on the way out). The Cutter sometimes goes rouge so watch out for that... I've not DCed the T10 or Beluga but I suspect these have the same doggy DC issues.

Happy Docking!

I still can't bring myself to use the advanced version (there's something about taking your ship out on helm control that I've watched too much Star Trek to not love)

That is, if you are the helmsman. But when I'm flying my T-9, I am the captain. I'm just tasked with ordering the robot-helm to take us out of the dock. 🤓

(The T-9 is the only ship I use FA off and cruise assist with, they make a perfect match. Ordering it around is just as good as flying it.)

But where is the fun of experiencing 1hr travel then falling asleep and crashing!
What next the auto trading computer and auto pilot auto combat..

Ah, another Docker thread! 🍺 Even after 4k+ hours, I fit them on each and every ship except some Explorers, AX and PvP builds where they're either unnecessary or every slot is actually needed for something else like MRP and such, and for some reason, I don't even feel guilty about it. Maybe because I don't fly the Cutter that often, for I don't like the cockpit in VR and that Airbus-like flying style, but I don't remember when, if ever, I lost the last ship to a DC, certainly not to the ADC. If it starts to queue, I simply fly manually thru the slot and apply DC afterwards, it's not that hard really. In earlier times, the DC was much more aggressive btw, being able to land in record time, going full speed instead of 100 and such, but they corrected that at some point. And SCA is a gift. The last ship I lost was one of the Vettes to a Neutron Star, but that is another story and it took remarkably long to die, losing one system after the other in the process, and reboot couldn't cope with that. Used self destruct when I got bored. YMMV.

O7,
🙃

Docking computer on cargo Cutter, I have that.
Although, it's too slow from outside for my taste, so I enter station manually and let it park it inside. Launch is manual mostly, also no patience.

Cutter auto launch woks. Most of the time.
But it needs supervision, else it will get you stuck eventually and your Cutter will be just another notch for station gunners.

I love my docking computer. It has never crashed me. I also very rarely ever have to wait in a que, to dock. I suspect that this may be due to what I believe is the game prioritizing large ships first. That means my Type 10 almost always gets to go first. Now as for leaving stations, yes, I do sometimes end up in a que because there are already pesky little ships making their way into the station.
