I’ve just discovered the Docking Computer, and...

It shines when one's target is in the 100k Ls + distance (IMO) as longs as the target isn't obscured it will get you there, eventually, and drop from SC for a station, or orbit if a body... Providing the opportunity to engage with other things during the transit. (y)

Yeah I should probably try it on an explorer ;)

Sometimes I wish my CZ Frag Chieftain had autodock, it's quick to kill but consumes ammo really fast & the amount of wars I do I'd quickly run out of mats if I synthed. But something else is always a higher priority :)

Docking will be quicker when the Federation learn that Imperial Cutter's do not form queues

Indeed. I’m actually in Sol for my trade run. What better show of imperial decadence could I bring to the heart of the federation?!

Avert your gaze and bow your heads you corporate plebeians!

Pro Tip: To avoid the queue, just blast through at your own speed (and own risk!) then engage the DC as you enter the slot. Guaranteed fast, safe landing. Do not engage before entering the slot with this method - the result is left to the reader to discover 🤭

Absolutely! It’s simply an aide to support the process. I often turn it on as I head through the mail slot on my way in. And when leaving, I let it line itself up before boosting out

Whats more in any Sci Fi Universe I ever invented - there is no way in hell I would allow private vessels the ability to dock manually at a major public hub like a station if only for traffic control / safety purposes .

Neither would I, but I'd also never have my character install some room sized relay computer/jukebox combo, if there was an option to do without.

Wow! Just wow!

Ok, so I’m not much of a trader, but I’ve finally got myself a Cutter and I’m hauling 728 tons of goodies from A to B.
Something different to do, 10M profit, single jump, so it’s all good.

I’ve been flying since 2014 and never even considered a docking computer before (I mean, why would I?’), but this thing is a barge. So, I thought, why not?

And, my god, it’s great. I LOVE it. It saves so much time docking (and launching - I have the advanced version). I love how it lowers and raises your landing gear, and even manages your pips so you get 4 to shields as you land.

Don’t get me wrong, I won’t be getting one for my FDL (or in fact any other ship), but for my Trader Cutter, it’s terrific.

Plus, some Blue Danube, in a nod to my 1984 childhood self. Lovely!

What’s not to like?!
Should be vanilla standard without module space...in the future frontier extrapolates no advances in human ingenuity?

I've used one on my shield-less trading Cutter for months and the only time I've come near to death was forgetting to zero my throttle and ploughing into the station while I nipped to put the kettle on, leaving me at 9% hull after I dropped a cup to rescue my ship.

I don't leave it unattended :)

Coffee breaks are what distant binaries are for ;)

Yes, but in any Sci Fi universe the AI would be a lot better at piloting the ship than the one in this game. Until that AI comes along I’ll pilot my own ship.

I rarely leave it tended, I'm usually tabbing out to check something online, or answering work questions on my phone, got to be efficient with my time as I don't get much to myself.

I still can't bring myself to use the advanced version (there's something about taking your ship out on helm control that I've watched too much Star Trek to not love) but my T-9 wouldn't be without a basic docking computer just for laziness. It's an easy ship to dock, I just can't be bothered with its ponderous nature when doing it. Other than that though, I've never found docking particularly onerous and actually quite fun so I don't tend to bother with it on other ships.

No hate for someone using it though. I think anybody who uses one because they can't dock their ship should learn, it's a basic skill, but after that using the automated assists is a matter of personal choice. I can read a map just fine, doesn't mean I won't use satnav.

Also I've never lost a ship to a docking computer in five years. Probably because I don't turn mine on 10 yards away from the mailslot doing 250m/s. (That's what manual docking is for :D)

Make sure it runs under OS X and not Windows, also you can change the soundtrack with something from "The Clash" ;)

Docking computer is a lifesaver when you really can't pinch the loaf any longer.
Except sometimes my throttle deadzone craps (HA) out and I end up bonking the station as last night's tacos destroy me

I feel you old bean.

Prairie dog ging is not good, what what

The DC is superb for medium or small ship docking at outposts .... avoids having to hunt for the landing pad behind the clutter of buildings, tanks and other projections, only to discover it is underneath ! Saves a lot of time for those delivery trips.

I didn't put a computer on my Cutter. Why should I? I never needed one on my Anaconda.

Apparently I underestimated the Cutters gigantic wingspan whilst docking to sell a full load of Platinum. Got hung up on the toaster rack thingy, and was turned into space dust. Expensive space dust.

Now I use the docking computer with pride. So rock on OP.
