This is the internet. I think I can guess.

You didn't get our problem with this.Did anyone actually read the article?
I'm sincerely sorry if you did. I admit I've only skimmed this thread, but even towards the end of it there are people talking as though They've Decided To Make James Bond A Woman.
They haven't.
He retired, and his agency assigned his 00 number to another agent. That's all. In UK policing officers have collar numbers (from the early uniforms that had metal numbers pinned on a high tunic collar). For almost the entire history of UK policing numbers were recycled: an officer joins, is assigned, say, 1234, and when s/he leaves, 1234 is reassigned to a new recruit. Some forces are now adopting a unique number system - though how long it'll be before that gets out of hand I can't say, given the numbers are supposed to be easy for the public to see and remember, but time will tell. But Bond's agency (is it MI6, or something fictitious? I've never been sure) apparently just reassigns them.
That said I freely admit the media are being pretty disingenuous about this (there's a shocker): I mean even the OP-quoted article ends with a mention of 'Woke Bond', as though it's Bond who's changed, rather than just the agent using that number.
In any event, James Bond is not a woman. James Bond is a retired ex-assassin/spy living in Jamaica at the start of this film, and someone else now has his number - presumably until he gets called back and reassigned it for some reason (she leaves/is killed, and it's easier to give it back to him now he's active again than assign him a new one, whatever).
Still, gotta chuckle at that optimistic 'movie insider' who describes the on-screen fake-out reveal of the new 007 as "a popcorn-dropping moment". Hardly going to be that, now you've made a big public issue of it, is it?
So was Dirty Harry, and that is how the characters was written, if people don’t like it, then they probably would have faded away.
Well imagine someone saying this todayA better question to ask is whether movies like that are being made any more.
EDIT: Movies (or any art) can be seen as representative of their time so can be enjoyed with cultural differences or problems in mind.
Where does it say that? Because it's not been in any of the coverage I've seen. Nobody's suggested Craig isn't going to be the lead for this movie. And the next movie's likely to be another reboot so this 'new 007' woman will be reset anyway - and that's assuming that after her scene in this film, which it sounds as though they're playing as a straight fakeout despite having already announced it, she isn't killed off early, or otherwise steps aside to let Bond have his number back, like I said before. They are making James Bond a woman" we just don't like that James Bond franchise is getting a female lead.

I always wondered if James Bond was the name assigned to the agent with 007, as a way of explaining all the different Jame Bond Actors, at least in the movie universe not the books, as they are all different agents who become 007 and take the name James Bond, when the old agent dies or reties.
That would allow a female James bond
But apparently it doesn't work
Proof That James Bond ISN'T A Codename
A fan theory suggests "James Bond" is a code name given to England's best agent. That theory is wrong.screenrant.com
If you shoehorn a different lead into a franchise, you killed the franchise.

I don't see any reason at all to think anyone seriously wondered about 'making James Bond a woman'. I do, however, think there's every reason to believe this is a throwaway forthelulz bit of trolling by the filmmakers who've been watching fans tie themselves in knots panicking over the thought that someone might. It's possible someone might make a movie at some point about a female agent working for MI6 (or whoever it is) in James Bond's universe; but she won't be James Bond and I don't see any evidence that anyone's even considered doing that. It's a case of reading between the lines.
The consensus I've encounered is that the film makers have seen how badly it's gone for other franchise's and are using this to 'test the waters'.
Personally, I see it as a movie that's suffered serious production problems trying to insulate itself against failure (or accusations of failure) by wrapping itself in Identity Politics
Nice bit of intellectual ju-jitsu. Doesn't change the fact that iconic male roles are systematically being replaced (or whatever you want to call it) by the woke left's idea of good cinema leads. The fact is the next Bond movie produced will not have a male lead, all in the name of political correctness.I don't see any reason at all to think anyone seriously wondered about 'making James Bond a woman'. I mean look, they made a girly Ghostbusters, thus literally destroying the world* - but none of the characters were Egon Spengler, Ray Stantz, Pete Venkman or Winston Zeddemore. They didn't make those characters women. They made a film based on the same idea with different characters.
They made Doctor Who's Doctor into a woman and literally destroyed the entire galaxy** - but it was relatively easy for them to do that since the Doctor is an alien whose physical traits and capabilities can be reworked on the fly (although co-creator Sydney Newman suggested a female regeneration as far back as 1986).
They made Starbuck into... Actually, no, they didn't. They didn't make Starbuck, the Colonial Viper pilot played by Dirk Benedict, into a woman. They remade Battlestar Galactica and included in the new version a character called Kara Thrace, callsign 'Starbuck', who was a woman. Likewise Lt/Col. Boomer, who was and is a man, versus Lt Sharon Valerii, callsign 'Boomer', who is a woman.
In each case bar Doctor Who, whose main character's nature can in any case support the change consistently within the story, no male character in any of these franchises has been turned into a woman. In each case, a female character in a remake has been based on a male character in the original story, which still exists and can be viewed and enjoyed by those who liked it. But in each case, a certain subset of 'fans' have utterly lost their poopoo at how the new version has "r(uin)ed their childhood"; and honestly I think given the opportunity to troll that subset just a little, you'd have to have willpower of solid steel not to want to do it.
Will Bond 25 be any good? I dunno. Honestly I think Casino Royale was magnificent, and since then it's been a steady but rapid downward slide for Craig's Bond movies, with just a slight boost for Skyfall.
By the way, unless someone's asserting that they don't have an identity, they participate in identity politics - and really, even then. Everyone who's ever said they're a 'conservative', for example, or has identified themselves as 'straight', is engaging in it.
Last thing: across all these franchises who haven't actually 'turned (character) into a woman', and the one that has, not one single time has what they've done ever, ever "insulated them from accusations of failure".
(* All that actually happened was that there are now two Ghostbusters films, the later one very loosely based on the first and not as good as it could've been if they'd kept the Elder God stuff from the original.)
(** All that really happened here was that there was a new series of Doctor Who with at least one stunningly good episode in 'Rosa', a few meh ones, the one with the spiders and the rest I didn't bother watching.)
Try as I might I just can't get my head around the fear you have. I don't understand what it is you're so deeply frightened of that makes you confabulate some kind of media conspiracy from whole cloth. The "woke left"? I mean what does that even mean? 'Good cinema leads'? What good cinema leads are being 'systematically replaced'? Because with the exception of the Doctor, who's replaced every few series anyway, it isn't any of the characters I've mentioned above. And it isn't James Bond. It just isn't. I can't know how all this looks from inside your head, but I'll tell you this: there is nothing - nothing - that suggests to me that James Bond is being 'replaced by a woman', that the next James Bond film won't be led by a man, or that anyone in a position to make this kind of decision has ever considered doing it.Nice bit of intellectual ju-jitsu. Look at the article. Read the article. Don't just glance at the title and make up your own body text to fit your inner political narrative. I mean you accuse me of 'intellectual ju-jitsu', but you're literally reacting to something that is not happening.
Yes, that bit. The bit where it doesn't say "Lashana Lynch is replacing James Bond as the lead character in the James Bond franchise" - yet that's what you seem to have read into it.Aside from the title "Lashana Lynch is the New 007" you mean?
Like I said, you're reacting to something that isn't happening, and following up your reaction with talk about "iconic male roles ... systematically being replaced ... by the woke left". Given I can only think of one example, in Doctor Who, of a male character being made into a female character - like I said, there are several cases where the production has been remade with a female character in a comparable role - and without delving into what you're imagining when you refer to "the woke left", it certainly looks as though you're afraid of something. It's normally fear that leads people to catastrophise like this. What is it in your case, if not?Who said anything about "fear," anyway? Looks like your projecting that one.
You're forgetting Tootsie,Mrs Doubtfire,The Tempest,Some like it hot etc etc...Yes, that bit. The bit where it doesn't say "Lashana Lynch is replacing James Bond as the lead character in the James Bond franchise" - yet that's what you seem to have read into it.

You've lost me with those. You're forgetting Tootsie,Mrs Doubtfire,The Tempest,Some like it hot etc etc...
Yes,that Tempest. With Helen Mirren as Prospero. Since this whole topic seems to be about character gender morphing i thought i ought to throw it in for balance. You've lost me with those.
The Tempest as in THE Tempest? The Tempest from the early 1600s?
Mrs Doubtfire I seem to recall was about a guy who dressed as an old woman in order to circumvent a court order... I'm not sure that would count as a male character being replaced by a woman.
I've never seen Some Like It Hot or Tootsie, but based on a quick Google they both seem to involve men dressing as women. I'm not sure how that applies here.
