Jameson Memorial - what is the attraction?

Nope, although I personally think FD could have done more to make the station a little more unique, even if it is just to bring it into line with the Lore surrounding Commander Jameson.

I am just trying to work out why so many call it home, maybe I am missing something or not part of the kewl gang? o_O
Name just one ship or module that one can get anywhere in the entire Milky Way Galaxy that one can not get at Jameson in Shinrarta. It's a one stop shop, not to mention a discount if one is an Admiral. Sorry, Kings don't get one, understandably so.

Mainly reside there for the random interdiction attempts, all the modules you can eat and the resounding echo of magnificent trumpets when I receive the "welcome home, Cmdr" tribute message. Possibly I might have exaggerated the last part.

Because it sells everything. Literally the only reason.

I have no reason to set up anywhere else that I can't get to within a few jumps. Anything I need to do in the bubble is within 10 jumps with my utility ship(s), and if I am after combat? Still basically any type of system is within 10 jumps of my corvette.

Now that I am playing more often, for the time being, maybe I will move to an interstellar factors station. Maybe.

Just thought about it... I actually have very few ships AT Shin... my Mamba is still parked there, still wrapped in the factory plastic, full of unengineered stock modules. I simply bought it, outfitted it and left it there. I think my Alliance Ship Collection is still parked there too, because I don't really have much use for them. Other than that, all my ships are spread around the galaxy in the places that they are most useful to me.

Meanwhile in Diaguandri...

Sheer convenience. Every module. Every ship. 12.5% discount. Material Traders down the road. Engineers not too far away.

I've wasted far too much time previously flying to ports for modules. No more. Now I can spend more time enjoying the game.

How is it you people who have played since Kickstarter don't already own every module and every ship in the game that you might possibly be interested in?

When I was on PS4, I rarely visited ShinDez at the end, as I already have everything I ever wanted, and then some!

I've been around since gamma, still going strong. I do take breaks though.

The deciding factor is grinding I think, there's just much more longevity in enjoying yourself instead. I still haven't even made triple elite or tried flying any fed ships smaller than a corvette. No rush.

I go there every time I want to build a ship as you never have to travel elsewhere to get some modules. In Solo; I'd never consider the "emergent content" worthwhile.
Oddly enough, my alt account visits mainly in PG, I'm going there to get stuff, not because of the magnetic personalities that 'hang out' there :)

Discount plus ship and module availability. It's just very convenient, perhaps a bit too much. It's silly that you can't order modules from distant stations and just pay more to have them shipped over.

Because I'd rather have fun doing the things I enjoy, rather than grind away at the various exploits finely balanced credit making opportunities that have appeared over the years, and are now the "new normal." :(

Greeting fellow Commanders, I have a question that I hope doesn't offend!

I read quite often about Commanders setting up their home station at Jameson Memorial (yep the one in that permit locked system that is hard to pronounce or type in a hurry). I will be honest, when I made my first Elite rank and got the permit, I naturally dropped everything and headed straight over there - and was seriously disappointed. It would have to one of the most mundane, boring stations going around - and ugly as hell! Now I am trying to work out what the attraction is, why do so many set up home there.

  1. Is it because it sells everything? For me that isn't a factor, I am not continuously buying ships and modules, and when I do I take my taxi there or the ship that needs the modules.
  2. Is it because of the discount? Lets be honest here, if you have reached Elite rank, credits shouldn't really be worry. No matter how much extra you pay somewhere else, that cost can be offset by one mining trip can't it. If I need something I weigh up the cost saving against the time it takes me to get there, most of the time it is just easier to buy whatever I am after locally.
  3. Is it because it is the traditional home of the Pilot's Federation? Yes it is but lets face it, the good old Pilot's Federation has let the place deteriorate badly. The station itself looks like it has been used as a biowaste container, and it isn't the most law abiding and safe area is it. You would think that being the home of the PD, it wouldn't tolerate anything untoward or illegal!
  4. Is it because 'it's a cool place to be'? If yes, then your definition of cool is different to mine. Having to run the gauntlet of gankers and griefs every time you leave the station would get tired very fast to me. And going solo or PG, well why bother being there then.
  5. Is it because it is a 'target rich environment'? This I could understand if you are into that sort of thing, but because I don't PvP, it is actually a damn good reason to avoid the system entirely lol

Just to smooth any ruffled feathers or knickers that suddenly developed a twist, I have nothing against anyone who wants to hang their shingle at Jameson. I just feel that there are far superior stations out there, it is a big galaxy but so many stick to one minor little system.
Mainly 1 with 2 close behind.
3 I stopped thinking about shortly after I had scanned all the beacons.
4 It can't be cool they let me in.
5 I don't consider it a target rich environment, there seem to be about as many NPCs to shoot at as any other system.

So it was convenience that got me to move most of my ships and modules there from Ix in Li Yong-Rui space, it has to be said I am not often there at the moment and the ships are scattered all over the place.
