July's Steam's Survey results show active VR users now make up 6.67% of the player base

That's pretty nuts if you as me. Especially as that is 'active PC VR' users, not standalone VR users e.g. standalone Quest 2.

I would argue PC VR users enjoy content and like sim like content such as ED. I wonder how the percentage of active ED players compare to Steam's current active VR player base...

This looks like a statistical blip - it happened in May when it jumped to 3.24% before dropping back to its normal level around the 2% mark.

There isn’t any large shift in the per-headset percentage share so it’s not like there’s been a massive amount of new Quest 2 owners plugging into Steam or anything.

Ahh.
Maybe.
Or it could just be for that month maybe relatively fewer teenagers playing flat-screen due to summer exams but HMD usage being consistent?
Don't know.
Lies, damn lies and statistics

But a 20% jump in userbase also suggests a 20% increase in vr headsets in use.
Not saying it is 20% but numbers have increased massively since the Covid outbreak, no im not knowledgable i just looked at the user stats and saw there is large growth, its all relative.

Steam have changed how they do the hardware sampling - you used to have your headset connected and working for it to show but now they check your logs for the past month to see what you’ve been using - so this might be reflecting true numbers. We’ll know if it’s an erroneous reading if it drops back to normal levels next month.

It’s a very large growth but the percentages of the various headsets has stayed roughly the same - so it’s a bit of an odd one. If a particular HMD had a sale and showed a massive percentage increase in the Steam numbers then it might explain it, but the headset share numbers haven’t changed that much since the last survey:

More steam users while at the same Vr % would suggest that Vr user base has increased.
2% of 10m v 2% of 20m is a significant increase in Vr users ;)

Aye, but the individual headset share numbers have stayed roughly the same - so it’s like there are three times as many VR users but all the new headsets are spread out over the various types in the same ratios as previous months.

The previous increase in May was tentatively linked to a decrease in 3.38% of Steam users (those using simplified Chinese) but VR user numbers dropped back to normal the next month. I hope the new 6.67% figure is actually a true number due to the new polling method but we’ll have to wait until the next set is released - Valve (as far as I know) haven’t said anything about the previous “blip” 😁

Not disputing that, I cant ;)
Just the fact that more steam users with Vr means maybe EDO and the like may get better support, here`s hoping.
