Jurassic Timeline recreated in JWE2!

Hello All!

Introducing my brand new project for the 30th Anniversary of Jurassic Park in 2023! Bringing together lore from the films and viral marketing world-building from Chaos Theroum this chronological timeline will detail major events from across the Jurassic Saga recreated in Jurassic World Evolution 2.

Feel free to follow along on the Instagram Account: Jurassic_Timeline! Each post will have multiple images for the event, going into more detail than this thread.

PART I: ORIGINS

1 (2).jpg

Before the age of man, before the age of dinosaurs, it was the age of monsters. The Permian Period spanned 47 million years from the end of the carboniferous to the dawn of the dinosaurs, 252 million years ago. This diverse world was inhabitated by strange mammal-like reptiles such as dimetrodon and lystrosaurus, which would eventually walk the Earth again. The Permian ended with the biggest extintion event in Earth's history... so far.

2 (2).jpg

The Dawn of the Dinosaurs. During the Triassic Period, all continents were connected as one giant landmass, Pangea. The dinosaurs started out small - in what is modern-day south america, it Pangea was home to small therapods, such as Herrerasaurus and Ceolophysis.

3 (2).jpg

The Age of Giants. The Jurassic Period saw life at it's largest yet - from the large therapods like Allosaurus to the behemoths of the Mesozoic, the sauropods like Brachiosaurus and Diplodocus. Marine life also proliferated to new sizes in the form of marine reptiles like Icthyosaurs, Plesiosaurs and Mosasaurs.

4.jpg

4c.jpg

The height of the dinosaurs. The Cretaceous period saw unparalleled diversity in life - from dinosaurs, to pterosaurs, marine reptiles, mammals and birds. It also saw the first flowering plants.

5 (2).jpg

65 Million Years Ago, North America. A territial dominance battle between a resident Tyrannosaurus and a visiting predator from the south sees the mighty rex fall. A passing mosquito lands on its fresh corpse, and feeds on the still flowing blood - this blood will form the base genome for all InGen's Tyrannosaurs, 65 million years later.

International Genetics Technologies (InGen) is founded by John Hammond and Benjamin Lockwood in California. The pair plan to resurrect ancient life from DNA trapped in the thorax' of prehistoric mosquitoes preserved in Amber. They have ambitions to change the world, but perhaps not in the way events were due to transpire...

6 (2).jpg

A histoic deal is struck between International Genetics Technologies founder & CEO John Hammond and the Costa Rica Government. InGen lease an island off the coast of the Central American Nation for 99 years, with the purpose of developing of a pioneering reptile cloning facility...

7 (2).jpg

InGen procures Isla Sorna in the Las Cinto Muertas archipelago, 207 miles west of Costa Rica, for the construction of their facilities far from prying eyes of the US authorities and rival genetics firms. It is on these islands John Hammond will realise his dream of extracting dinosaur DNA from mosquitos trapped in amber, and resurrecting dinosaurs from the ancient past.

This is great, I think you can also include the Lockwood Manor since he and his daughter were instrumental for the ground work of the park.

Hammond has grand plans for the dinosaurs - they are to be the centrepiece of Jurassic Park - a theme park in San Diego. Construction begins on a site that is ample distance from the existing tourist attractions of Sea World and San Diego Zoo.

World-class geneticist Dr Henry Wu is hired by Hammond directly out of MIT following his graduation. He is tasked with bringing the first dinosaur back from extinction at the embryonics lab on Isla Sorna. He is appointed lead geneticist at InGen only two years later in 1988.

Triceratops is the first species successfully brought back from extinction on Isla Sorna - a huge moment for InGen with repercussions for all life on Earth...

13 (2).jpg

With the dinosaur stock and operations vastly expanding, a village for workers on Isla Sorna is now up and running, housing a small population of scientists, technicians, engineers, handlers and maintenance crew that begun to call Isla Sorna home. Thanks to the volcanic nature of the Muretas archipelago, the operations on Site B are powered by a geothermal plant.

Thank you so much Jens for sharing on the community livestream on Friday! This was a huge passion project, with a key aim to show the breadth of Jurassic World Evolution 2 as the most complete Jurassic experience (outside of the films of course). It's great to see that all the time I spent lining up some very specific shots has been worth it. There's a lot more to come between now and December so hope you continue to enjoy checking in over the months!

ISLA NUBLAR, 1988

14 (2).png

Hammond dreams of a grander park than the site in San Diego, and in 1985 leases a second island off the Costa Rican government - Isla Nublar, 87 miles northeast of Sorna. InGen begins construction on the new site for Jurassic Park on Isla Nublar in 1988 and the operations at San Diego are abandoned.

The first Tyrannosaurus are cloned on Sorna, with InGen cloning six in total over the years. One will go on to become the Queen of Nublar, while two others will form an unlikely bond years later.

The initial Tyrannosaurus is moved to its paddock on Nublar, with the intention to move another into the habitat in a few years. This individual will go on to become one of the longest surviving of InGen's creations, surpassing 34 years in age at the very least.

Between 1988-1990, more species are moved over to Nublar, with an intended opening date set for 1994, in four years time. Brachiosaurus, Dilophosaurus, Herrerasaurus, Gallimimus, Parasauropolus, Triceratops, Tyrannosaurus and Velociraptor are shipped as the original line-up, with Baryonyx, Metriacanthosaurus, Proceratosaurus & Segisaurus also planned for the tour.

Thank you Jens! I'm not ashamed to say it did take multiple half-day sessions to get all the shots just right, especially for the movie scene recreations which will be coming up very soon...

Velociraptor is also among the first species of dinosaur brought back from extinction for display on Nublar, at some point between 1986 and 1991. Upon release, the first individual wandered back and forth near the embryonics lab for four minutes and twenty-two seconds, before hearing a noise which drew it further off into the brush. Velociraptor will play a crucial role for InGen's fate in the deades to come.

The beastiary of Isla Nublar is managed by a team of park rangers, led by chief warden Robert Muldoon, whom Hammond had employed previously at his game park in Kenya in the 1970s.

The first phase of the Nublar guest experience comes online, beginning with the park tour. the next phase of attractions is set to come online 6-12 months after the planned 1994 opening. Before his departure from InGen over disagreements with Hammond regarding human applications of the cloning technology, Benjamin Lockwood brought his daughter Charlotte along on the tour on Nublar at some point before 1993.

In order to appease concerned InGen investors in the wake of the death, Hammond invites an endorsement team to tour the park, comprised of palaeontologist Dr Alan Grant, paleobotanist Dr Ellie Sattler, chaotician Dr Ian Malcolm and lawyer Donald Gennaro.

Unbeknownst to InGen and the endorsement group, chief programmer Dennis Nedry deactivates the power in order to smuggle viable dinosaur embryos off the island for $1.5 million dollars, only to be caught and killed by a rogue Dilophosaurus in the storm. His benefactor was Lewis Dodgson - a shady operator for InGen's chief rival company - BioSyn.

25.jpg

Nedry's failure to turn the park systems back on after his demise, combined with the tropical storm results in a huge containment breach on Nublar. Amid the chaos, Gennaro, Muldoon, and chief technician Ray Arnold are killed by the Tyrannosaurus and Velociraptors respectively, and all dinosaurs escape containment. Hammond, Tim, Lex, Grant, Sattler and Malcolm escape Nublar. InGen covers up the incident, bribing the families of the deceased and coercing the survivors to sign an NDA. Plans for “Jurassic Park Europe” in the Portuguese Azores are also abandoned.

Denny's!!!!! At least he was more than welcome to go an restart the systems but greed got the better of it, couldn't he waited until after the special visit left and the place was a bit more empty to conduct his job?

PART III: LOST WORLD

ISLA NUBLAR, 1994

One year after the incident, InGen sends a team led by Dr Wu to salvage what they can from Jurassic Park. They find a park in ruins, the jungle already reclaiming the Visitor Centre which has subsided due to seismic activity - the first recorded readings from the long-dormant Mt Sibo volcano on Nublar for hundreds of years.

The InGen cleanup team record many asset fatalities on Isla Nublar, as the predators run rampant on the island. Dr Wu makes the startling discovery that the Velociraptors had been breeding - a process enabled by the substitution of prehistoric DNA with that of modern-day African Reed Frog, which is able to change sex in a single-sex environment.

InGen is forced to abandon all activity on Site B when the island is hit by Hurricane Clarissa, which destroys much of the cloning infrastructure. Hammond later refers to the incident as "an act of God". All cloned dinosaur assets escape or are released into the wilds of Sorna.

DOLOMITE MOUNTAINS, ITALY, 1995 (estimate)

BioSyn, emboldened by their discovery at InGen, purchase a valley in the Italian Dolomite Mountains in the 1990s, which sits above a rich Amber deposit. Construction begins on a state-of-the art Amber mining operation at 46°30’36.7″N, 12°20’26.6″E. Decades later this mine will become the territory of BioSyn's own Dimetrodon stock.

After its abandonment, nature also reclaims Isla Sorna. With all the species released, a semi-nautal ecosystem has flourished, with different species staking out different areas of the island as territory. Many populations of dinosaurs have begun breeding through the same process as the raptors on Nublar, including a mating pair of Tyrannosaurs. Alongside the species present on Nublar, Baryonyx, Carnotaurus, Compsognathus, Edmontosaurus, Pachycephalosaurus, Pteranodon, Mamenchisaurus, Microceratus & Stegosaurus are also alive on the island.

COSTA RICA, 1996

Something has survived - reports of small dinosaur-like reptile sightings come in from Costa Rica, threatening the secrecy of InGen's operations on the islands. when a British family on a yacht cruise stumble across Site B and their young girl is attacked by Compsognathus, the InGen board use the incident to wrest control of the company away from Hammond, and appoint his nephew Peter Ludlow as CEO.

32d.png

Hammond sends a small team (including Dr Malcolm) to Sorna simultaneously to Operation Harvest to document the flourishing ecosystem, and sabotage the InGen operation. Despite suffering heavy casualties as a result of the sabotage, InGen successfully capture an adult male and infant Tyrannosaurus. The pair are transported to San Diego.

The male Tyrannosaurus breaks free of containment in San Diego, revealing the existence of dinosaurs to the wider public for the first time. the Tyrannosaur kills Peter Ludlow. It is successfully recaptured by Dr Malcolm and animal behaviourist Sarah Harding, and returned to Isla Sorna along with its infant.
