For me it would be a serious mistake for the campaign to focus solely on keeping the dinosaurs safe and that's it. It would calm wild dinosaurs, take them to an enclosure, heal them, and keep them happy. And that's it? There is nothing else? It would be ultramega repetitive to be like this doing the same thing all the time. Very boring. For starters, the campaign mode is so very different than I initially thought.
My initial thoughts were you will be able to capture wild dinos and bring them to theme parks being build on the mainland. In the first game, all of the Jurassic World Era buildable assets can be unlocked in it, sometimes with respective additional campaign playthroughs before getting some of them. So, I thought it would be the exact same here, but no.
Instead, the main campaign focuses on capturing and bringing in dinos into secure facilities to care for them, keep them and people safe, like a sanctuary of sorts.
It's Chaos Theory mode where the real story/narrative park constructing and managing theme lies! Based on what I see, the main campaign will be JW era, but with limited resources, in way more or less like the Isla Sorna (1993) and Isla Nublar North campaign maps from the first game. Guess that explains one reason why the division system from the first game the 3 division characters aren't being a thing. Also, because of this, I guess that means the rest of the JW era structures that you wouldn't be able to get in the campaign will be available in Chaos Theory itself. AND, it's also where you will be able to get the hybrids from the films from, instead of the campaign like I initially thought (which was why I was unsure how the introduction of hybrids would work for the rest of the game, beyond the Chaos Theory mode possibility). This also further clarifies on what they mean by "researching things in all modes" for Sandbox, because you can unlock more JW era stuff and more dinos both excluded from the campaign in Chaos Theory.
Then again, they did clarity before that if you research anything in any mode (including Challenge mode), it will be automatically unlocked for Sandbox. It's not like the first game where you have to play the campaign (and only the campaign) and research them there first before being able to use them in Sandbox.
It's also confirmation that the jungle type biome, whatever it's officially called in-game, will be returning, which is no surprise to me honestly, I just wondered how it would be implemented. As well as solid confirmation of Compsognathus (again, absolutely no surprise on that), as well as another type of unspecified mosasaur.
Then there is the issue of the number of dinosaurs. Are you going to have to look for the +75 wild species to calm them down? Are we only going to have a few dinosaurs available for the campaign and that's it?
On the other hand, where would marine reptiles fit into the campaign? Obviously there are no wild marine reptiles on the map (how would you capture them if they depend on a lagoon created by you) and they are one of the great novelties of JWE2. They must be in the campaign one way or another.
You will not be able to send expeditions or extract fossils, or create new dinosaurs in a hatchery or manage a park? Where is the fun if the campaign is going to take all that away from you?
No, what you comment cannot be under any circumstances. I think the campaign should be like Sanctuary DLC. First maintain a "nature reserve" of content and happy dinosaurs, and then exploit it economically, being able to use all the buildings and be able to manage a park that is what the game is about.
