Just been killed :( in seconds

I was flying an Asp with 6/B shields, shield boosters and Military bulkheads (not much cargo space though). About two hours ago, while still two jumps away, I was interdicted and attacked by someone - I never did see who - my shields were gone before I could even turn towards him (it only took two or 3 hits - I had 2 pips to shields), so I fled - 4 pips to engines, retract weapons, max boost, max thrust, working my joystick and thrusters like mad while waiting to High Wake out of there (I'd submitted to the interdiction to cut the cool-down time). He hit me twice while my FSD charged and I jumped away with just 19% hull and a cracked windscreen.

I'm guessing he had Railguns...

With that kind of alpha damage, I'd have to agree with railguns or hammers. If he had plasma, there would be a miss or two there and you would have seen a shot go past you. I ran an FAS with 4 hammers not long ago. Incredibly fun and crazy damage output. I cooked myself while dealing it out, but it was pretty fun. Even heat sinks couldn't save me from frying. A setup like that could appear and sound like a single shot while you're being hit with 12 individual bolts.

I've since downsized to 2 hammers. :)

It's a sad state of affairs for the CG's that we have these people getting kicks out of easy kills, players that are defenceless. I got killed at a CG whilst on the ground by probably the same people.
It's a Saturday night thing combined with alcoholic drinks I guess.
Best go to Mobius.
I only go in open in an FDL and guess what? I don't get attacked.

Really annoyed now.

My Asp Explorer, with Class 5/B shields and two (A and B) shield enhancers, was interdicted at HIP 93377 just now by CMDR <snip> and I was killed in just a few seconds despite immediate attempts to run away (I know...); I'm not a total newbie and what annoyed me is that it appeared the shields were taken down in 1 shot - certainly very fast indeed.

This CMDR's sig says they have a Clipper (I didn't see it just now), which is indeed a somewhat more powerful ship than mine, and is 'Average', again somewhat better than me, but really.... Is this truly legit?

This is my second attempt at a 'Community Goal', and the second time my ship has been destroyed while attempting to deliver cargo. I probably won't try again, it's too expensive (game money & my time) [downcast]

Use discord chat and find someone to wing up with. You will have more fun anyways.

I'll repeat what Sylow and twelvebore said earlier - join Mobius private group. That way you can have the hollow icons and the interaction that goes with it and not have to worry about those players that just want to kill off as many other real commanders as they can manage. You still have the NPCs to contend with but they are not the problem.

^^^ So much this. If PvP is not in your top 5 list of things you enjoy in ED then solo or private is the way to go. It's your money, your decision.

CG's are a PvE trophy collection part of the game. Do not bother doing them in Open as PvP will slow down your ability to contribute.

It's all fun and games in Mobius until someone decides they want to shoot fish in barrels....

It really depends what you want to do.. I'm a part time trader but also a PVPer so I know exactly what the enemy commanders are capable of in combat ships. I've been doing the same CG in open for quite a few days now (admittedly in a Cutter which is very different) and have of course been interdicted many times. For me giving the pirates a wink etc and escaping (Or occasionally ramming them to death if I think I can get away with it) is all part of the fun. Doing a CG in a Cutter I use about 1000MJ shields and can only be masslocked by other Cutters which means I can largely just low wake using 4-pips to shields to protect myself during the 4/5 seconds of fire. However there are dangers in CGs even for Cutters (wings of FDLs for example). I used to do this kind of thing in an Asp though (and rare trading too).

If you want a better chance of escaping in an Asp I recommend:

* Putting 2 x size 2 D hull reinforcements in. It'll only cost you 8 cargo but you'll have 760 armour which makes it less devastating if your shields go down.
* Become good at selecting a hi-wake target quickly from the "1" menu.
* If interdicted, submit, 4 pips to shields, 2 to engines and hi-wake, keep boosting as you can and corkscrew (don't just rotate) around your hi-wake target to make yourself much harder to hit.
* If you lose shields 4 pips to engines and really use the boost to buck your ship around (called "going evasive")

If interdicted by slower ships you can outrun and low-wake using the corkscrewing method, but be prepared for a repeat interdiction. You will often at least get a head start into supercruise because the other guy will have been unable to start his jump because he had his weapons out.

If you do these things you'll be fairly unlikely to die to a commander in an Asp, and it is exhilarating. The only potential frustration is if the number of interdictions becomes annoying and then you get into interdiction evading tricks (which is a whole other topic :))

Playing in open == acceptance of PvP combat, even rampantly unfair & unequal combat. There's a small subset of PvP players whose whole game revolves around finding someone weaker than them and killing them "for lulz". If you don't wish to participate in that you can play in solo mode on your own, or join one of the various PvE player groups. Unfortunately I don't think there's a group where only reasonably equitable PvP is permitted.

Well, you are not alone to get destroyed like that, my trade-clipper got destroyed "in seconds" by a wing of FDLs (plasma and railguns?) while traveling to the above mentioned CG in open. I had no chance whatsoever.

(Why I flew alone in a brick with paper-shields and armor then I knew there would be pirates around I do not know..)

After that I went solo -gamemode ...

Playing in Open in a Trade CG is like sailing in a yacht along the coast of Somalia.

If you're focused on cr/t/h avoid it.

If you like to play seek&hide and entertain mostly gankers than do it!
