Just got my new Xbox One "ChatPad" for my Elite Controller!

Just popped into my local games shop on the way home now and picked one up! Lots of players text chatting last night and I just couldn't attempt to respond using the stick and on screen keyboard!

Should be better hopefully, if anyone's chatting to me tonight that is!?
It is a lot faster for inputting text than the on screen keyboard. The backlight on it is a nice feature as well (though it only comes on when you first press a key, it would be nice if it came on automatically when the on screen keyboard pops up).

It makes the galaxy map text input a lot easier as well as chat.

Had one from day one and bought especially for ED.
Only thing is I'm taking tons of recordings now with the one tap button.

Brilliant bit of kit.

Also has full volume controls and those 2 keys for record and screenshot will soon be able to be mapped.

I use a wireless USB keyboard and I don't have problems with distance or anything. I sit about 10 feet from my Xbox and TV...maybe its the keyboard brand? I had a chatpad on some 360 controllers but I didn't like how bulky it felt.

sorry can you tell me WHICH wireless keyboard. because i've 2 and don't works with xbox.

Does anybody else use the Xbox Smartglass App for typing? Works perfectly - I just type with my phone. Hello to everyone I encountered yesterday!

I have a couple of questions:

1) this being an Xbox One thread, can I safely assume we are talking about using an Xbox One Chatpad and an Elite Xbox One Controller while playing the Xbox One version of Elite Dangerous (not PC or Mac)?

2) I'm playing the Xbox One version with a standard XB1 controller and a third-party XB1 chatpad, and button mapping for the chatpad is not supported. Is this a different case when the Chatpad is combined with an Elite Controller? Can you actually map commands to the Chatpad keyboard now?

Thanks.

Sadly, the chatpad keys are not mappable to in-game controls.

Haven't confirmed it, but someone told me they'd mapped game commands to the screensots (X1) and video capture (X2) buttons. Those are the only mappable buttons on the chatpad. Of course you'd then have to use the XB/big middle button on the controller to get to the XBL UI popup to take a screenshot or video. I'll stick with them on my chatpad for convenience and speed.

2. No, Elite controller and first party chatpad: just x1 and x2 are mappable, and only for general Xbox commands, not for ingame functions.
