Congrats, nice work! Couple of questions:
1) How are you pulling motion data from ED? Or are you just using joystick inputs?
2) You're moving around a LOT! How are you accounting for HMD movement? Are you offsetting it somehow so you don't move in-game?
Thanks
Hi,
no motion data from ED (although us xsimulator-simtools users are in talks with FD requesting a motion API specific to ED - still awaiting FD action on this request tho). I'm using a custom joystick plugin to allow my HOTAS to control the chair at the moment.
Yes - I move around a lot in the chair (especially in CQC). I've found the HMD movement to be non-consequential when I play, in that I have my VR sensor fixed to my desk about 4.5ft in-front of me. My chair, HMD and me move - the sensor does not. Works for me and I notice nothing that really detracts from the immersion (the only thing I do offset is: before i play, I pitch the chair almost fully back while I look level-forward at the sensor before pressing F12 to centre the HMD at the start of a session - this is so when I pitch back fully in-game, my head does not move backwards through the seat!.
I did try it all out with the sensor mounted about the same distance away but fixed to the moving chair so when I move - it moved too. Loads of issues this way tho - mainly when I yaw the chair (move side to side). The sensor and/or headset get confused by the quick movement and the centering goes awry (I'm constantly having to hit F12 to recenter the HMD). After faffing about with the positioning of the sensor the issue still wouldn't go away so the sensor is back fixed to the desk.
I am going to look again into having the sensor (or sensors when my 8K Pimax arrives) fixed to the moving chair in the future to see if I can get it to track properly.
