Keyboard and HOTAS Reference Sheet Generator

I love this tool, i have used it for 3 different hotas now, and the xbox pad.

What i would like to see is list of all the configs for people to download and use, like a handy reference for those first settin up their controls all in one place, either on the tools site, or even in this thread.

I have the x52 just now, and would be interested to check a few other configs other than my present one.

This has been asked for by a few people and is something that could be done, but would require some tweaks to the way that the system works at the moment. Most notably it would require the ability for users to overwrite their existing configurations, which isn't something that is possible today. Otherwise you'd end up with many very-similar configurations as users often go through a number of upload->tweak->upload cycles as they perfect their configuration.

I'll have a think about how best to implement this.

With the advent of Horizons there are even more bindings to remember, so it's a good time to generate a reference sheet for your own customised configuration.

The reference sheet generator has been updated and is available at http://www.mcdee.net/elite/ It takes a copy of your custom binds file and generates reference sheets for you for both keyboard and HOTAS. Details of how to use it are available on the site.

If you find any problems with the files that are generated, would like another product supported, or have any general comments then please put them here. Thank you, and I hope that you find this useful.
Excellent program I am usually changing my bindings and I forget what it was 20 minutes later. Must be my Alzheimer kicking early even though I am only 30, great tool +1 Rep.

Greetings,

I've tryed to test your great tool with my ipega 9023, but I get this error:

You have a device that is not supported at this time. Please report details of your device by following the link at the bottom of this page supplying the reference "zibvdn" and we will attempt to add support for it.

Can you please help me adding support for this specific gamepad?

Best regards

Sorry, it seems that copy&paste the error from your tool to the forum lead to an unreadable output. The error is:

You have a device that is not supported at this time. Please report details of your device by following the link at the bottom of this page supplying the reference "zibvdn" and we will attempt to add support for it.

Been using this since getting my X55. The generated image sits on my iPad for quick reference. Great stuff. Thanks.

Quick bug report: Looks like on the keyboard binding chart, when you have a control mapped to right alt + some key, it's being reported as left alt + that key.

Thanks for reporting this. Do you have an example configuration you could reference so that I can take a look at this issue?

Sorry, I should have done that to begin with. I can post my cmdr.1.8.binds when I get home in about 3-4 hours.

Didn't work for me, it detected that my sticks were CH Sticks, but didn't interpret 70% of the binds correctly.
Nevermind, it was a lovely gesture, thank you.

jgm, I know this is a little off topic, but could this be adapted to work with Kerbal Space Program?

The ease of doing this depends on the format of the Kerbal Space Program control files and complexity of the controls. It's not something that I'm looking to take on but if someone wants to do it I'd be happy to share the existing codebase with them and explain what would need to be altered.

Could you provide details of your control setup? The reference URL that the generator supplied would be a good start, along with what didn't work.

Hi this sounds like a good idea and it seems to work for some people but unfortunately I cannot find the bindings file you refer to :

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings

I play horizons and perhaps I am just being dumb - can you assist please ?
Many thanks

Great tool...been using this for over a year...thanks JGM.

Would it be possible to include blank text fields for switches you can't determine via the bindings file?
Example = the slider switch and mini joystick (mouse nipple) on the X-55 Throttle?

I map the slider in the Saitek software to a key binding which sets reverse throttle.

Cheers

I've added a blank box for the slider switch. The mini joystick control looks like it's already there but the boxes weren't labelled correctly so I've tidied them up. Thanks for suggesting this.

Ah, well the format of the KSP settings file is pretty simple, but it is custom (not XML like E:D). It's basically a TAG/Bracket system, so it would require a parser to be written. That is ok though, it was just a thought.
