Keyboard and HOTAS Reference Sheet Generator

LEGEND!!!!

I no longer have time to maintain this site, and am asking if anyone would like to take over its operation.

The website is a single HTML page backed by a Python script. You will need to have a server where you can host these. I can redirect the main URL to your own site. Existing configurations will remain on the current site so that links that are out there in the wild will not break.

The templates for the joystick controls are in Affinity Designer format, although they can also be made available as Photoshop files if you'd prefer.

Please PM me if you are interested in taking this up, or want more information. Thank you.

You, my good man/lady are a legend! Too bad for us that you do not have time to keep up the good work, but thanks for excellent work through all this time!
I hope the guy who PM'ed you is able to pick up the torch.

Hello,

This is my T16000m FCS HOTAS bindings:

or (with colours by types):

Yes, we're in touch now and we've established that it's the sort of thing that I can do. I'm currently looking into hosting options as I'd rather it had its own domain. I suspect jgm has things on his plate IRL right now as he's taking a bit of time to respond, but we'll get there.

Great to read this news - this is an excellent resource and I used it many many times when changing HOTAS to get used to the bindings. Of course every little change means a new visit and thus printout for the reference sheet, so I for one will be grateful if you can keep the system going Vert! [and ofc massive thanks to jgm initially :)]

Cheers,
The Hat :)

Just a quick small suggestion that came to my mind after a while of using your site - could you put a datestamp (generated on yyyy-mm-dd) on the generated binds somewhere? I have a few "iterations" of my binds and would like a way to tell them apart which one is the newest.

Datestamps and a listing of all public stored configs are imminent. Searching by criteria such as date range, controller type etc is coming too but will be a bit longer.

Great to see the site live on VerticalBlank!!

PS - Just uploaded my latest bindings to test it out. Seems all okies, but it does return a potential misconfiguration due to the Analog & Digital Speed controls being mapped at the same time. This works fine in game though.

Cheers!

Glad it's working! I'd be interested to look over your results, if only to rule out a false positive. Do you have the link with the 6-letter code?

I know this was present previously. Wasn't of great concern as it all seems to work in the game, but if you wanted to check it out:

https://edrefcard.info/binds/nxecxp

Note: A number of mappings are missing as they are configured through a script.

Cheers again!

This is the binding it's talking about:
Code:
    <IncreaseSpeedButtonPartial>
        <Binding Device="ThrustMasterWarthogCombined" Key="Joy_RYAxis" />
        <Inverted Value="0" />
        <Deadzone Value="0.00000000" />
    </IncreaseSpeedButtonPartial>

That axis is the mini-stick on your throttle. It's querying whether you really wanted to bind a digital control to it - it's the SRV partial speed increase control. Hope this clarifies.

Thanks for checking it out VB!

I'll double check my mappings, perhaps I have made a mistake somewhere (good odds lol), but I didn't think I had any throttle mapped to the analog mini-stick/nub. I do have lateral thrusters though and boost for SRV & Ship.

Cheers,
AD

You're welcome. The mappings interface in game is so cumbersome, it's almost inevitable that accidents will happen. Personally I keep that entire directory under Git version control just to get visibility on any changes.

If this tool has flagged something useful, then I'm glad.

i'm just wondering - is there a way for you to add the ability to create a binds file via the website? one that reads what keys you already have bound, and then let you add, edit or change keys before saving into the binds format elite uses? This could be helpful during betas when new key options are presented, or (as in my case), you haven't updated your keybinds since the release of Horizons, and have 2 lists you want to combine into one.....

As an added plus, if you could have a keyboard representation showing you used and/or unused keys available, that could be of help as well.

I'm not sure how much work that would be, but I for one would love this ability!

Thanks for reading!

I'll put it on the thinking list but to be honest it looks like rather a lot of work.

In the meantime, if you are a techie and comfortable with hand-editing XML, it is not too hard to combine two bindings files using common sense and one of the common diff/merge tools such as Beyond Compare. Then you could preview the result in EDRefCard. I can certainly see the value of a graphical editor for non-techie people but I fear I might be going down the rabbit hole of re-implementing the entire in-game interface.

What is this "techie" of which you speak??? Never heard of them. Does that have something to do with that "star trek" thing??

On a serious note: even having the ability to create/change binds on the website and save to the "bind-file format" would be great! It would still be easier than using the in-game interface, (Imho). All i would ask is that you update the categories to reflect what is currently shown in-game).

thanks for the consideration!
